LED Footwell Lighting
I've had a crazy thought that the easiest way to provide a little ambient light in the front footwells would be to just pop a small green LED on each side of the fusebox cover, taking an ignition switched live from inside the fusebox to power them.

Does this sound stupid or is there a better way?

Do you only want the light on when the ignition is running? I'd look at wiring into the door switches.

I'd like them always on when the ignition is on, rather than with the doors.

It's nice when driving at night to have a little bit of colour in the vehicle, I have a 2017 E Class Merc which has all sorts of ambient lighting and love it!

I must be getting old - who on earth wants mood lighting in a vehicle when they are driving? Come to think of it maybe I should have installed it in my Triumph Herald 50 years ago for those romantic green lane sessions! Defender 90XS SW

To be honest I would like to turn down the dash lights I'm sick of the reflection in the Glass Don't make old people mad.

mcma on here installed mood lights in the footwell I believe.
As to myself, I recently installed footwell lights which come on and will fade off again with the other interior lights, but they do not stay on permanently as mood lights.
Reason I wanted those is that I often have to remove my Ardcase pedal lock, and in a pitch dark footwell I had blindly to search for the keyhole. With footwell lights which come on when the doors open, problem solved.
Wiring them into the door switches won't work. The door switches are only sending a signal to the 10AS, and the 10AS then sends the signal to the interior lights for these to come on and to fade off again. In my case the power for these footwell lights was taken from the center front interior ceiling light, wires run via the right hand side A-pillar and under the dash. Works perfectly. Pictures in my "2017 modifications" thread.

What a waste of time ! I hate any light in the cab when driving at night . Infact I even have a pair of old socks sitting on the steering column to cover the light off the panel gauge lights .

Sounds like a good idea to me, but I think I would prefer red, I am sure you know to put a current limiting resistor in series with the LED's for 12v 1984 300TDi hardtop Stornoway Grey

I've got some 12v green LEDs kicking around anyway, I'll probably knock something up when I have a spare 5 minutes. I like green to match the dash.

At the end of the day I can remove it easily enough, might even use piggy back fuse take offs for the power.

I'd like my dash lights to be orange rather than cold green. I'd also like sparkly stars in the black Alcantara roof lining Smile

I'll stop there before some old Phart has a heart attack at the thought Whistle Laughing

Use a piggyback fuse tap on the lighter socket feed.

I would disconnect come MOT time though, and bear in mind if any coloured visible light is viewable from outside in transit it's be illegal. (I'd have thought anyway).

Mine is only on if I put it in with interior lights or
OE fading mimicking the LR's system.
I don't have it on whilst driving. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

They cover the bright dash lights .... but really there the spare pair that every defender driver should have for the inevitable wet feet syndrome after every rain storm. Whistle
