I also like my 2.4tdci although I have never driven Land Rover before. I'm ok with the power, i even like the slow 1st gear. Just hope this motor will last long. I also blocked the egr and did a decat.
I cant confirm all bad sayings about Jeep. I drive one for long time now, no complaints and a really fun ride. It's 27 years old now and I love it. Defender 110 SW MY2011 2.4tdci decat, no EGR Jeep Wrangler YJ 1990 4.0. Front 78' Dana 60, Rear CUCV 14 bolt |

I have owned most types of LR product over the last 40 odd years including several Defenders. I did like my TD5 but it could become a bit wearing on long motorway journeys, the 2.4 TDCi I had and the current 2.2 are streets ahead with regards to comfort for long trips; also the 90 SW has decent seats for a couple of passengers. Overall then for the use I put my 90 to then the TDCi is the best Defender I have owned. After saying that I still hanker after a basic 90 300TDi 90 soft top(Wolf perhaps) for pootling around and some green lane stuff

I have just clocked 103,000 miles in my MY61 110 USW, just to say I have had some of the normal warranty work carried out since new, though it has always started first turn of the key, and has never broken down, and have never had any MIL lights. Most of my weeks are spent travelling up and down the UK's motorways, and I can honestly say I never tire of driving in it, and hey so what if I'm slower than other road users, I will arrive 15-20 minutes after they do, with a smile on my face

Since you posted in the TDCI section, you are preaching to the choir
My 2.4 has 200,000 kms (over 120,000 miles in old money) and I am very happy with it specially for long distance touring when fitted with good AT tyres. I attempted the same with my old 300tdi 130 and ended up with tinnitus. |

It is also my Daily Driver because I enjoy driving it so much. When you drive a commuter box, you are just not anywhere near as engaged in the driving experience.
The TDCI Defender is the ultimate driver's 4x4. |

I've had 3 Defenders...300Tdi, Td5 and this thing, the Puma or Tdci. The most horrible rattly heap of junk ever. Yes it may have more power but I preferred the Td5 for noise and both previous models had far less slop in the drive train.
Nearly all faults can be put down to Ford cost cutting and a workforce that couldn't give a . I admit it's never broken down but then I've spent heaps on strengthened axles etc. it damn well shouldn't. It's up for sale after nearly 5 years and good riddance. AlanH. |

AlanaH ford sure did suck the guts out of the Defender, you got that one bang on.With the TD5 that I had I sure miss the overlapping power pulses, the Puma however it doesn't seem too mind me giving it the berries!( Thanks Gary, Ben at Alive!) Been chewing wether to get rid or give it the full ashcroft treatment. I would like an auto due to my health situation but I am reluctant to do so with a four cylinder and 3.2/5 might as well get LS3. That being said she's staying! Now I knew I put the four post in for something!

I use mine all over the UK and in quarries plus some heavy off roading and its been fine in the 40k ive put on in a year!
The only issues i've had have related to its previous owner who used it for towing at max gross weight for 120,000 miles! I bought it as a non runner needing a output shaft and clutch and a few other issues, its been good as gold since apart from a vacuum pump letting go and minor issues related to wear and tear. 1000x better on the motorway than any other defender/discovery TD5 and earlier. 2008 Santorini Black 110 XS USW (Sold) 2015 Discovery 4.5 Black pack Firenze red XS 2008 Corris Grey 110 XS USW (sold) 2011 Santorini Black 110 XS USW (Sold) |
