It's the same in Aussie, lots of people just don't care,..and you can see it by looking at the opening edge of their driver's door,...lots of paint chips off the edge signifies, "I don't care".
Wifey has an Audi RS3, & she NEVER parks in a supermarket, and when we're travelling in our 90 we try to find good safe parking in any Motel we might stay at. It's a continual worry, trouble is some drivers just don't care,....I've seen heaps of drivers park up against a curb, I've heard & seen the wheel scraping the curb, leaving nice wheel rash, and the driver gets out,...doesn't even look,....same with low front spoilers, air dams etc, I've seen people park, scraping the spoiler on the footpath as they park,...again, just get out,...don't even look! Even in our Church car park,..we have to watch where we park! Pickles. |

Recently I saw a similar incident where someone parked and opened there door into another car parked alongside. I left a note under the wiper telling the victim what had happened, but when I returned the victim had left. I was just putting a load from one shop in the car before continuing retail therapy in another.
The devil in me came out and made me move my 90 into the adjacent bay, close to the offending vehicle. The 90 is a work horse with galvanised box section sills that protrude enough to protect the dors, so is virtually car park proof. On return I saw that there was a tiny mark on the sill and several months worth of road and farm grime had been wiped off the side where the driver had to rub against the 90 to enter their car!. Don't park anywhere in range of someone else's door. That's the first rule of supermarket shopping here in Harrogate.
We also have to contend with ignorant old cows on Motability scooters, yummie-mummies in Cayennes, well meaning but clumsy vicars in Honda Civics and retired librarians in multi-coloured knitwear reversing battered 2CV's all over the place On the plus side, I saw this in Waitrose. Over the years I have found that my vehicles are much less likely to get dinged by doors in a carpark if they are absolutely filthy and plastered in mud etc. Every single door dent I have ever had has been when the victim was clean.
My conclusion is that people are more worried about getting themselves or their vehicles dirty than damaging other people's vehicles. It's a great excuse too for nto washing the vehicles too often! |

The amazing thing in these type of threads is that contributors appear to never be guilty of causing the merest kiss of their own vehicle door against another vehicle.
It's usually always the other person - another reflection on the morals of modern society. Steve. Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades. Very true although I find "standards of driving" topics even more polarising
I could add that if only everyone was as law abiding and as upstanding as folk on motoring forums the world would be a far better place |

I'm not sure what's worse to be honest, people opening their doors onto other people's cars or those who park their expensive car across two bays to avoid some peasant opening their door on to it.

Well, I don't believe that I have EVER touched someone else's vehicle with my door, because I take the same level of care of their vehicle that I hope they take of mine. I see no excuse for it. |

Just like all the to..ers that park in Dissabled Bays who aren't disabled
I suppose it could always be argued that they weren't actually in a disabled bay!!![/img] |
