Another quick update guys. The new carburettors aren't much better, in fact my max speed is now reduced to about 50, sometimes I can go to 60 when accelerating and not paying attention to my speedo. When disassembling my old carburettors I found that the float was set about half a centimetre too low. I have amended the float height and replaced almost all the internals with new parts. I will take the choke mechanism apart on both and rebuild it then post back once they are fitted back onto the engine. 1999 Land Rover Defender 110 td5 station wagon

Last update.
Misfire is finally gone! After doing a lot of research I found that the fuel restrictor actually doesn't need to be there with a fuel return. I bypassed it and it seems completely cured. I could go 80mph in 4th into the wind! Although wouldn't recommend it. Kind of frustrating that it's something I could've fixed for free in 15 minutes when the misfire appeared last year.. But hey, you live and you learn At least a bunch of worn parts have been replaced! Thank f*ck I didn't buy a new engine like I was planning to 1999 Land Rover Defender 110 td5 station wagon 1998 Land Rover Defender 110 County Station Wagon ~ Sold 1995 Land Rover Defender 110 V8 Station Wagon ~ Sold 1985 Land Rover 110 ex mod project Tithonus ~ Sold |

I'm glad that you've finally got to the bottom of it, well done. I started with nothing and still have most of it left!

I had a similar problem with one of my Range Rovers. Bought a new car before I finally sorted it.
Turned out to be a 'spikey' diode in the alternater causing an insulation breakdown in the coil! |

It would be cheaper in the long run to buy yours than do the conversion on mine But even so, using it for work the fuel bill will be enormous 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up.

Haha the inescapable fuel bill. If diesels are scrapped petrol prices might be dropped nice and low to persuade people to buy petrol cars 1999 Land Rover Defender 110 td5 station wagon
