During a longer-ish trip (450km) the clutch point moved further and further down to the point where I was not able to change gear any-longer.
I suspected the fluid and or cylinder has gone. I had to leave the vehicle but returned with some clutch fluid in the hope I could limp the car home. I added not more than 100ml or 150ml then the level was up to the lid and it did not sink at all. I pressed the clutch pedal. First nothing have changed but after I pumped several times the clutch start to work. I think few air-bobbles escaped but there were no large move in the fluid level. I pumped some more on the pedal and I was now able to change gear and I drove the car home. And it actually worked OK? Now – what shall I do now? What would your suggesting be in terms of investigating? Should I change the cylinders? The car is a Puma 2008 110 inch with about 60000 mile on the clock. I really appreciate that there are some one who takes the time to reply to my often quite daft questions I have noticed that there is a spring on the clutch pedal. But mine is just hanging loose. It is not clear to me how it should be attached to the pedal arm? Anyone experienced this? Click image to enlarge |

Looks like it's popped out of the pedal. I've borrowed this from another thread so you can see where it fits.
The manual suggests taking off the pedal box to attach the spring but this isn't necessary. Lots of threads on here to show you how. Click image to enlarge |

When compared with the fitted photo it would appear that your spring is oriented the wrong way round ? Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants...

The photo from Silver Back has the spring fitted, but it's upside down and could stop the pedal being fully depressed.
The photo from rasmussen is the right way up, but has somehow managed to unclip - which given the spring pressure is a bit strange. Dave Green Goddess - 1998 Defender 110 300tdi |

I have had the car since 2012. The clutch has always been the famous hard to press. (the normal complains from wife)
It is quite strange how the spring have managed to pop out Also a bit strange that I did not noticed it in the first place. I have been searching here on the forum on how to get the spring back in place but have not been successful. Is there a kind person here who could lead me in the right direction. |
