I have the same, it is the Traction Control apparently (when mine makes the noise about 20% of the time the TC light comes on). Still looking for a fix, I read mention of reseating the ABS sensors to clear the noise. There was some other threads on it..

Do you have a RTC steering damper fitted? Mine does it and it's the spring moving, i cant for the life of me figure a way to stop it unwinding itself!

Mine was doing that about 3 years ago. It turned out to be a broken coil spring - two in fact. Both of the front ones 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Nope, it is definately a noise from behind the dash from the ABS unit in my case

It is the random , indescribable noises that give the Defender it's character

Did anyone find a reason/fix for this? I think I am suffering the same thing, am I doing any further damage to the truck ?

Mine does it too - very infrequently, but always brings a smile to my face as its letting me know its a 'boingy' ! Euro-Leafing to infinity and beyond.....

I have a 2008, is it only a "feature" on the 2.4s or has anybody had it on the 2.2s?
