Try to change the gasket between the intercooler pipe and manifold .
For Land Rover this gasket is supplied as part of the whole inlet manifold (reference n 1 ) ....but not for Britpart Part number for reference is : LR004404S Marco Defender 110 "SW" SE Galway Green MY 2009 Ex Defender 90 "SW" S Santorini Black MY 2010 |

For all those who have little experience this was as easy as the guys said. Undo 2 bolts gives enough movement to part the manifold to the air intake pipe. Fine screw driver to dislodge the gasket from the manifold recess and then with fine bottle pliers remove.
Refit by sliding new gasket into the gap and then I used a steel ruler just to lift it up into the manifold recess have wiped down all the gunk and made sure both sides were clean. Tighten up the 2 bolts making sure not to be too heavy handed and job done. All in 30 minutes. Thanks all for the link to the part number and advice....saved me a fortune. I got around to doing this today.
I used a 1/4inch ratchet and a long 8mm socket for the innermost screw and a short or shallow 8mm socket for the outermost or right hand screw. The reason for the long 8mm socket for the innermost screw is that there is no clearance for the ratchet with a shallow 8mm socket. Once you get the innermost screw up a bit you can revert to a shallow 8mm socket. The two sections separate as you undo the screws so I did a couple of turns on each screw to keep the strain from building up on one screw. The screws stay in place once loosened. I used a small flat screwdriver to prise out the existing seal. Next I inserted a piece of thin card between the two sections. I slid the replacement seal on to this then put a long bread knife underneath the card and lifted it up which put the seal into place. I removed the card then just tightened up the screws which drew the two sections together. It only takes a short time as mentioned above. I fitted a Bearmach seal. Does anyone know whether the rubber hose at the bottom of the metal section can be removed and REFITTED EASILY. I'd like to remove it to clean inside the metal section. I undid the hose clamp but the hose is very tight to remove. I did not want to remove it incase it was hard to get it over the metal section again. I did remove the sensor but it was clean. P.S. I must check that I did not put the breadknife into my tool kit by mistake.... 1982 88" 2.25 diesel 1992 110 200tdi csw -Zikali 2008 110 2.4 tdci csw-Zulu 2011 110 2.4 tdci csw-Masai |
