Vortex exhaust fitted!
So for nearly a year I have been considering fitting an exhaust, following undersealing and having underneath pristine and all ruined from the bulky rusty pipe work and resonator.

For me it was quite basic in my needs - had to be stainless (including hangers), look standard, not add noise (no one wants to hear a loud straight 4 Transit engine do they) and make me smile.

I've had a few sports cars and always changes my exhausts and added HFC's and while power was delivered the sound was always what I was aiming for and most power I might of got was amplified through the placebo of the sound.

Lots of options out there and a few subtle differences but I wanted something a little different while keeping it pretty standard but the idea of the Vortex system was intriguing and in all honesty I didn't buy into it fully.

So finally after much thought and deliberation I took the plunge!

The axle back section I really liked because its not all bent, some sections are welded and for me it shows there a little more hands on craftsmanship. It moves the tail pipe slightly so it faces backwards and fits perfectly in the notch for the standard one.

Then the resonator is replaced with an Eco-Flow Vortex - looks awesome and sitting in there and maybe add some magic.

So all fitted and some photos taken I could finally take it out for a spin - I will admit and I said to them in there that its an under powered lump of a thing, I would doubt this alone could change anything.

So started her up and she sounded the same (a good start, keep that Transit engine quiet) and took her for the test drive... I must say that while not earth shattering there is a difference felt in 3rd to 6th gear mid-range and pickup. I was utterly gob-smacked and kept then forcing myself to try again and ensure its not just in my head.

That for me was the best part, id didn't expect this thing to really deliver any performance benefits but it has and now I can cruise along and push my foot down and it actually does it with a bit more sense or urgency (its still a Defender though).

So here's some eye candy to enjoy (sorry for the quality and the dirt) -

I got the Double S /Bosal/Britpart stainless part for mine when the front flexi went.

Too old for a cat, so decat downpipe and replaced the centre box with a straigh through. Sounds great, revs more freely and cost me £60 for each pipe!

I will report back when I get a few miles in and see how it performs on extended runs and if there are any other benefits other than looking awesome Laughing

Must admit I also think the clamp lets it down. Test it with a magnet, you'll then know for definite if it's stainless or not but my money's on mild steel. Rest of it looks superb. Defender 90XS SW

I'm not convinced with Vortex's sales blurb, but then my 90's got a 3 foot long 3" straight-through Embarassed

Looks smart though, I wish someone could do a before-and-after on a dyno with a Vortex silencer.

Was thinking the same. Some of the claims on their website seem somewhat embellished.
If there was a honest before/after dyno run out there it would be very interesting, though considering their claims you should be able to feel the gains straight away.
Can't see how they can guarantee the increases they do on normal aspirated cars, not without a remap. Turbo diesel a different story I suppose. Lot of money to spend.
