Picked it up this evening...
They've had the transfer box out, and found that the splines were worn on the output shaft, so they've replaced that, and put a new gearbox in it too. The clutch turned out to be fine. Only driven it the three or four miles home and it seems fine, got a couple of long runs this week though, but hopefully that'll be the end of it's issues now! Just thought though, if there was a load of slack in the transmission, how badly would it have affected the diffs? Could I be expecting a diff failure at some point in the future, or am I thinking too deeply into things......? |

Hard to tell. To cover your açç just make sure you make a note stating your concern.
FYI your gearbox and whatever they changed will be overhauled and fit to another LR costumer soon (internal spare part traffic). Puma 110" SW ............................................................. Earth first. Other planets later |

Ended up doing about 80 miles this evening, and sure enough, there's still the occasional clunk. Can't think of anything else it could be other than the diffs now? I can't complain about the dealer that did the work, as the service and staff have always been great, but you'd think they'd have noticed when they were testing it? Oh well. I'm in the area tomorrow so will bob in and mention it, plus I'll return the random screwdriver that was left in there.
I wondered what they'd do with it. I'm assuming it won't go into another vehicle that's still under warranty, just resold as a recon gearbox? |

Make sure both propshafts are well tight. Otherwise I would tend to think on the friction plate. They are very tricky. Puma 110" SW

i ve just had a backlash issue sorted by rear drive shaft and drive flanges on both sides, was told by regenal tech guy, that there has been an issue with the heat treatment on some of the half shafts. wouldnt check the front ones for me though, but it has solved the issue.
