Unlock it with the key and see what happens. Some models have battery backup alarms and others don't. Depends on the build spec. If your Defender is a 2.2 puma then it probably does have the backup sounder. Good luck. I'm sure someone will know more than me on this.

hi
Thanks for the reply Mine is a 2.4 If the backup sounder goes off, how do I silence it? I can try and get the booster pack on it quickly to start the engine? --------------------------------------------------------------- |

My money is on the fact that you haven't got a battery backup sounder then.
Sorry I can't be of any further help! |

mines a 2.4 10MY with a sounder.
i would open it with the key and jump it. there is a sequence or door open/closes ign on/off to silence the alarm is there not? Cheers James 110 2012 XS Utility 130 2011 M57 bespoke Camper 90 2010 Hardtop 90 M57 1988 Hardtop |

Are you sure that the fob battery is ok? Try a different set of keys, and hold them close to the driver's side A-post when you press the button.
If the fob is good and the vehicle battery's totally flat, it's likely that you don't have a BBUS (battery backup sounder) since it will go off if the vehicle battery is completely flat. If it goes off, pressing either fob button should cancel it, provided the fob battery is ok of course. I would try opening the vehicle with the key and seeing what happens. |

I have a 2.4 and if you use the key to unlock I'm sure your alarm will sound and you would need to connect the battery and use the fob to reset. Can you not charge it up over night or just leave it unlocked.

Thanks for all your help! http://www.defender2.net/forum/images/smiles/icon_bow.gif
However, I cant believe it. I was about to open it with the key and ready to rush around getting it started to silence the alarm when it went off and I thought I would give the fobs another try. One press and it opened straight away and started fine. I had previously walked all the way round the car with both fobs pressing at all different locations - in particular near the drivers door. Both fobs have had the batteries replaced very recently. It now all seems to work from anywhere. Very odd! I have now put the battery on a recondition charge with the Ctek charger overnight. So, thanks again and sorry to have wasted anyones time! --------------------------------------------------------------- |

Is it possible you used the sequence 'lock, lock, lock, lock, unlock' on the fob just before it worked?
That's the fob resync sequence that I have to use on my 2.4 after having disconnected either the fob or vehicle battery... I managed to do this randomly the first time I encountered the issue so it it took the second time to actually learn about it. Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants... |

^^^^ This is true, but if you change the fob battery fairly rapidly you shouldn't need to do it.
The LR battery you will every time. Disconnecting the battery is essential before starting and electrical work. No Guts, No Glory. 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |

I had a problem with both my cars one morning. First was a Toyota Rav4, went out and couldn't open it on the fob. Wouldn't unlock and assumed battery was dead in fob so walked to work. 1/2 hour later my wife rings me telling me she can't get in her car, a Mini One. Fob not working. She called the AA and he really struggled to get into it. Cars were fine previously night and OK at night the same day. It turned out after speaking to a few people a communications company had been installing new lines and had been buzzing the lines to test them which we think interferred with both cars.
