Thinking aloud.
What size is the rear tub? What I am thinking, 3 roof bars across tub then a folding rooftent mounted to roof bars ? Would need to check packed sizes of tent in comparison to rear tub Brendan |

I did it on my Series III about 20 years ago.
Fitted a sheet of plywood over the rear body held onto the capping rail with J bolts. Then fixed the tent to that. Padlocks on the tailgate underneath made everything secure. I'll see if I can find a photo. |

you could have brackets fabricated and mount a 90cm patriot to the top of the tub. Other option is fit a roll cage over the back and put the tent on that

If you wanted to avoid an over hang then a fabricated cage works a treat. Have a look at my gallery

That is exactly what I had in mind, do you have any further pictures of it or could let me know how it was fixed, it looks like you have a tub cover on it and then some kind of bracket fixing kit? Thanks |

Love your truck TC, very tidy. Yours actually got me thinking about it but as you had it fabricated I guessed it would be a lot of cost and hassle to get it fixed up. Reading various posts ai think you bought it from Sonic? So maybe he could answer vote questions  |

I take no credit for it Surrey, Sonic built it for his Defender, I just swooped in and vultured it when he finished with it
I liked what Sonic did above, but I wanted to avoid the cost. I bet you could come up with a solution involving roof bars over the tub, you would though be dealing with an overhang....queue Ali Sport wheel carrier  To fill the void under the tent.
The other consideration about mounting it low, you won't have the ability to use the space below it when the tent is up, no tourer kit etc. You may end up wanting to come up with a solution for an awning for useable living space after you have mounted the tent. I haven't used my set up yet so whatever you do, don't take my views as sound! The best advice I have recieved is to take it slowly, think through your uses and build slowly. My truck is just about getting to the point where I can use it for camping trips, nothing more. I want to have a truly self sufficient overland set up but that is a while and a few quid away yet |

There are some more pics in my gallery showing the various setups ive had The one in the pic above shows an African Outback cover on the tub which had 2 roof bars for the tent to sit on. As for tents I've had all types Inc an off road camper trailer, and not one is perfect all the time. As Steve says if you mount it down low you won't have any standing room under it unless your 3ft tall  |
