The doors will fit, central locking might be an issue, there was a thread on here where a kit was retrofitted to a rear door so I'm sure it's possible. 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html

The locks on the "lift up handle" doors are totally different to those on a more modern Landy - based on my experience of series vehicles. The big advantage of the older doors is they are split and you can remove the door tops, great fun when the weather is good and a big plus if you are doing the likes of vehicle trials. Getting a good set of ex military aluminium door tops won't be cheap, then you have paint, new interior trims etc etc. To do it properly and have a good factory finish - if that's what you're after - I think you would be the thick end of a grand anyway, then suss out central locking etc.
If you decide to do it I'd be interested in seeing just what you've done, take photos and post them on here |

The lift up handle doors from the early 90s and slightly later 110s were single piece with lift up outer handle and inner pull handle similar to the later ones. It is possible to retrofit central locking to these if you so wished.
The older series style and early 110 2-piece doors have inner and outer lift up handles and could not be fitted with remote locking. 02' 110 TD5 Double Cab Rebuild Thread |

Why couldn't you adapt a rear door central locking?
Rear doors still use SIII handles and they have remote locking |

Whilst the handles are the same, the locking mechanism on the front doors is very different. It comprises a twist and push knob rather than the sliding latch on the rear door. Darren

Have a look at sp landrovers. They do the doors, locks and door cards.

You should perhaps try a vehicle with split-doors first, it would be a retrograde step I feel.
They are a world away from Tdci doors and although they look good they quite frankly are horrible flimsy leaky draughty crappy things in my opinion. The early 90/110 one-piece doors with lift-up handles and wind-down windows would still give you the desired effect but are an improvement on split-doors. However they're like hens teeth in good nick and still suffer from the catastrophic rot which blights all pre-2005 doors. |

Good advice Retro, thanks. Looks like this isn't going to be a straight forward process, so will take it one step at a time.

I have 1984 doors with lift up handles in my 2003 td5 90.
I have no real experience with the Puma but it will be almost a straight fit if you change the door catch too. However most work will come after the actual fitting as you have to redesign the door seals and all the other parts that just don't fit. It might be more work than you expected. At least it was for me and I don't even have door cards and electric windows.
