Isn't your defender sealed to prevent water ingress?

Sandy110, thatīs impressive! As a seasoned trailer-boater, i can fully understand how easily that happens. I would have died of shock, if my Defender would end up like that!
Have been close to it a couple of times. Slipways can be slippery.... 1998 Tdi 90 SW, 2008 Td4 90 SW, 2012 2.2 90 SW, 2" raised Trailmaster/Terrafirma Heavy Track Raids, 255 MTīs, Recaro CSīs, anorak, wellingtons |

At least you were still on the slipway. I've dropped the trailer off the end of Pwllheli harbour slipway once, or maybe twice

That shouldīve been on camera! Your poor dad screaming out the window whilst hopelessy pressing the brake pedal in panic. Slipways are always a good source of entertainment. A short anecdote, if you have a moment... Three years ago my son and I towed two boats down to Lake Constance for an event. He drove my one week old company car, an expensive saloon, towing our 15 foot rib. He was down at the slip way ahead of me. The slip was busy, so he unhooked the trailer and drove out for a coffee. On his return, he grabbed the chance to get the rib in the water. He too, has done this hundreds of times with many different boats. All routine. As he backed onto the ramp, there was a noise, and he saw the rib disappearing in the rearview mirror! He jumped out, to see the unhitched trailer rolling striaght down the ramp. As he ran after it, he heard a noise behind him and turned, to see 2 tonnes of car rolling down behind him! He jumped to one side, and the car swerved as it gained speed and came to rest in bushes next to the ramp. The boat floated slowly out from the ramp, with the trailer still attached at the winch eye. By the time I arrived, he had, with the help of the harbour master, almost got everything sorted. Apart from some strange scratches in the fresh white paintwork of my new car, and the even whiter face with which my son greated me. The harbour master had offered my son to polish out the scratches once we had got out on the water, and not say a word. The honest lad that my son is, just had to own up. After a few seconds of shock I successfully laughed it off, thinking how glad i was that he hadnīt got run over trying to stop the car. Doesnīt bear thinking about. Every time one of us hooks up a trailer since then, we check twice to see if the towball is fully engaged. 1998 Tdi 90 SW, 2008 Td4 90 SW, 2012 2.2 90 SW, 2" raised Trailmaster/Terrafirma Heavy Track Raids, 255 MTīs, Recaro CSīs, anorak, wellingtons |

Coming back from holiday a couple of months ago. The roof rack had quite a few other bits & pieces on it that can't be seen.

Off to the Big Ford Tractor Register working day tomorrow ( although my tractor is tiny), this year they are celebrating the fact that Fordson and Ford tractors have been being produced for 100 years this year.
It's taking place at Rowde just outside Devizes in Wiltshire, so fairly local to me, and it gives me chance to put on my tractor anorak for the day. Click image to enlarge The event is being sponsored by the local New Holland machinery dealership Th Whites who have been selling Ford tractors since the start. Money is being raised for various charities, so should be a good day out. Nick |
