Park the car uphill and open the radiator cap would be my first step. See if you have any air pockets in the inlet manifold or heater matrix. m

Parked the car nose uphill. Removed the radiator cap and nothing really happened. Turned on the heater and lots of hot air came out - so I believe water was circulating into the heater matrix.
Any other ideas? Do you think a work camshaft could make the engine run hot? I don't really see how........ 1995 300tdi Defender 90 P/UP 2011 Puma Defender 130 D/C 2000 300tdi Defender 110 P/UP 2015 Discovery 4 SDV6 HSE |

I thought normal operating temperature was around 90 to 100deg?
In which case 100deg in traffic would not be anything to worry about? With correct antifreeze mix, and pressure, the water should not boil until reaching around 130deg. When releasing the cap, and also then the pressure, it may boil - so take care. My 4.0i 50th was completely gutless in standard tune - coupled with standard gearing through the slush 'box I think this is normal. The 3.9 disco, and TDCI defender feel much more powerful. |

Sorry, I didn't made myself very clear, but was the water level really high up? If not fill it right up (whilst uphill). The cam shouldn't made a difference but my water pump failed at 60k's and I replaced the radiator on my 50th as it was shoot. Maybe worth a flush/ test. m
