I put a kenlowe on. Didnt notice any difference to anything. But , when we went to the Sahara with VInce Conbley he said thta there was no way we were going unless we changed back to the viscous fan for realiability reasons. So we did and I havent used it since. .....on the Landy. I ended up putting it on the Marcos. CC |

Unless you need the space (unlikely) then the viscous will be better in every way.
Sapping engine power when cold is a myth, they freewheel until the temperature rises enough to kick them in. And then when it is needed, the viscous fan with its cowling is far far more effective than any electric fan you will be able to fit. Land Rover know what they are doing, hence why all Defenders have had engine-driven fans. And yes I have had both fitted to mine. |

Daft Laddie question.... but I'll ask it anyway. I take it my TDCi has the electric fan for the air conditioning - does this work in tandem with the engine fan above certain temperatures? Just thought the engine fan would have pulled air through all the radiators?

Considering many people undo them with a chisel and/or a hammer, the risk of breaking it with your bare hands remains fairly low, I reckon. But you never know, don't sue me if you manage to ruin the fan (or your hands, which is more likely).
But you need the right tool to hold the pulley, as mentioned in the other thread on this forum I pointed out initially. Both 2.2 and 2.4 are the same threads, and so is the TD5 (I did my 2.4 a year ago and my TD5 a month ago, but the tool to hold the pulley is different between a TD5 and a Puma) From the workshop manual for the 2.2 Puma:

It is easy enough to change the thermostat without removing the fan.
