Totally agree with Blackwolf on Dormer drills. I buy HSS drill bits from Screwfix. They are reasonably priced but on metal, they struggle. Masonry drills are best left to SDS if you need to do something big. I've never really had too many problems with DIY shop masonary bits for a normal chuck. For wood, unless it is hardwood, most drill bits are good. |

Dewalt for me. I run full kit with 5 amp batteries. I keep adding on bare tools as and when needed. I find that the dewalt impact driver has a lot more power than the Makita version and also the dewalt grinder keeps going where as the makita has a thermal trip on it that cuts in early. The dewalt nut runner is pretty impressive in brushless.
As for drill bits I use dewalt in the main but topped up with cheap and cheerful throwaway ones but found that if you are doing a lot of drilling into brick/ concrete an sds drill with sds bits last an awful lot longer |

Bit, we use the cobalt ones from https://www.beal.org.uk/drill-bits-abrasives.html - they do a good job at a sensible price.
For wood you can use the metal cutting ones but you're better using a proper brad point bit. And for masonry, get an SDS if you're doing a lot but otherwise I don't think it really matters that much. They've all got a carbide tip. |

Not sure if this is of any interest: http://www.uktoolcentre.co.uk/Shop/p~93930...eries.html Came through as a "Black Friday" offer (I'm on their junk mail list for some reason), but looks like a good price. |

Just broke a 10mm twist drill (Bordo brand) with my Makita 18V cordless.
So either Makita is strong, Bordo is crap, I have bad technique and/or all of those things Will agree with the above re. Mikita cordless jigsaw too - spent some time with mine today and came away smiling. Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants... |

Sorry members that i have not had time to take the pic's of the new stuff i got, which is all Blue Bosch, got a brushless, cordless drill with 2 5.0 batteries and an SDS electric drill with a quick release chuck to fit a normal chuck on that came with it and got a free battery grinder with it but i put a bit of money with it so it would be in its proper box than not have a box at all 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up.

I understand that the current "M18" batteries are quite reliable, the earlier "V18" type Li-on batteries were a disaster, but I'm certainly not going to be going back to Milwaulkee to find out how good the M18 is. |

Bit of a thread revival here popped up whilst searching. This is what I have only with 3x 5AH batteries, there is bigger capacity now but the best combo drill I've ever used. All of my Bosch blue is still going strong and wouldn't be without it, so nice it just grab without needing to reel power cables out etc. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |

Metabo for drills and other tools for as long as I can remember. My Metabo SbE 1015/2 S-R+L Signal Plus drill must be 30 years old and remains as new.
Think Metabo have always been at the top end of the quality scale, a bit pricey though. German brand, German quality. Mine from those days surely was still fully made in Germany, nothing Chinese in there yet. Surprised brand is not even mentioned here, but maybe not well known in the UK. Admit as to recent cordless drills I now also bought a Bosch PSB 18 LI-2 Ergonomic, as about a year ago this was on sale at a very sharp price. Also very good German kit, although still believe Metabo is a notch higher on the scale. Eric You never actually own a Defender.
