Probably means one of the switch wires has rubbed through to ground somewhere. Unfortunately it's some old fashioned wire tracing to figure out where!

Did you install the switches to solve the problem, or was it caused by installing the new switches?
If I'm not mistaken the wires in the door contacts are earthing the light, so if the wire is damaged and makes contact to the body the lights will go on. Edit: posted simultaneously with the previous post. Greetings, Joris |

Before it all went wrong, did it have a delay on the light turning off?
Do you have an alarm? I was under the impression that all of them that age did but it's worth checking. There's a 12V permanent feed to the interior light, then the switch selects between off, on (direct connection to ground) and auto, which connects it to the 10AS (alarm unit) or through the doors if you don't have a 10AS. The wire goes down the front pillars in to the back of the dash, but it's in a loom with a load of others. |

All td5's have the AS10.
I had the same problem. My problem was that the 1984 doors don't have the extensions that push the switches in. So I don't have an interior light anymore. Stay on forever, or stay on for 10 minutes?
What pattern of flashes is the little red light on the dash doing? You can narrow things down a bit using the little red light, because it has different flashes for driver's door, non driver's door and all closed. If the light never goes out then it's either a faulty 10AS alarm unit or a fault with the wiring from that to the light. If the light goes out after 10 minutes then it's a problem between the doors and the alarm. |

Interior light switch in middle position, light on door shut, light on dash flashing steady one second intervals.
When I lock vehicle with key fob dash light flashes rapidly for a few seconds then settles down to one second intervals. Have had front roof lining out cleaned wiring socket with electrical spray . Can't find anything obvious. |

That sounds perfectly normal.
It's a shame the 10AS is such a fiddle to get to, but I think the next step would be to try and unplug the feed out of that. It really does sound like a short to ground somewhere. |

The unit is behind the dash along with a few of the relays on the Td5.
If you take the dash off you will see the unit. Defender Td5 Commercial 2002 Range Rover L322 TDV8 Westminster 2012 Discovery 4 SDV6 Landmark 2016 |

Just a quick one which should tell you if you have a broken or rubbed through wire - do you get two horn blasts when you arm the alarm? If you do then it is a trigger wire fault somewhere if you don't then it is AS10 or beyond 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon
