I bought a Makita cordless to drill out broken manifold bolts on my Merc truck and a box of Bosch drills and tools. Paid for itself ten times over. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

I'm not a pro, but Makita has never let me down.

I agree. Bosch, Makitta, you won't go far wrong. Many like DeWalt. I have never owned one but I was led to believe it is the same company which owned Black and Decker (and they also own Stanley Tools I believe).
If you are just using the drill infrequently, don't disregard some of the cheaper makes. Ebauer from Screwfix is fine. I have a drill screwdriver combination and a circular saw made by them. Owned a Milluakke (if that's spelt right?) battery drill which at around 10 years old has been really good value for money though the batteries are getting towards the end of their useful life. |

Bosch GSB as suggested are a good hard wearing tool (Costco are doing a great Bosch 18V 6 tool kit at the moment) , Hitachi are a good alternative and probably better value.
I'd steer clear of Milwaulkee if you want decent quality batteries, we've got a store full of Milwaulkee tools which we cant get replacement batteries for !! |

This. Although I have 3x 5AH batteries so no down time at all. Recharge is very rapid though anyway. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |

Never had any trouble with Milwaukee batteries, found them to be amongst the best, if not the best. |

All the big brands do good drills, and everyone will defend their choice. Buy the pro level rather than the consumer and you won't go far wrong. I was burning some time in a Homebase the other day, and the motors on the consumer 18V drills compared to my bosch blue 18V drill were tiny.
Also decide if you may want other cordless tools, and buy into the system. I plan to pick up an 18V SDS Drill and angle grinder to go with my Impact and Drill. Same batteries and Bosch seem to be ploughing more development into this current generation of battery still. |

Thumbs up for Makita here too.
Had reasonable experiences with Bosch at work as well. Make sure you buy from a reputable dealer to avoid cheap battery repacks. Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants... |
