Hi folks
I need to gently introduce my Mrs to the joys of camping. She doesn't share my sense of adventure (yet) and the idea of not coming home to a warm bath and a flushing toilet is worrying her. I'll soon have a new rooftent to christen and need to find a site in the Highlands somewhere that has cleanest, warmest facilities of all time, as well as being in a picturesque location, preferably with snow this Christmas! We'll be visiting the outlaws in Lanarkshire and she's agreed to one night, maybe two, somewhere in the highlands. Any recommendations anyone? |

I can recommend plenty of Scottish campsite but if you are looking for somewhere between now and Christmas you will find most shut for some of the winter period.
Sites like http://www.scottishcamping.com/ and http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/ should let you search on "open all year". I am just back from (pod) camping near Glen Affric at the Cannich Caravan Park - Their main facilities were shut but keep open a very warm disabled toilet/shower room and the launderette over winter. Glenmore Campsite near Aviemore is open all year with modern facilities - Great location and has nearby cafe and bar to keep warm in. However we have stopped going cause of the price and petty rules. I got the pod last weekend for the same price as camping at Glenmore! Red Squirrel in Glencoe is another one open all year though not used for a while - Facilities are portacabin based but you have the benefit of being able to have a wood fire. |

One of the rules being 'no ladders on site' - they confiscated mine for the duration of our stay! I brought it along to make it easier to load and unload the camping gear from the roof rack, which they allowed, so it was okay, at least it gave us something to laugh about. |
