Shocks and springs
Hi all
New to all this so I hope its OK to ask what might seem like an obvious question to those in the know!

I have been told by my garage that the shock on my 1989 defender 90 need replacing soon.

Question is do I do all 4 at once and seeing as the springs look original should I do those at the same time?
The array of shocks and springs out there seems a bit confusing to say the least, especially to a novice like me.
I use it occasionally off road for my job but 95% of the time its on tarmac.

Any advice would be really welcome.

Thanks

I'd definitely replace shocks in axle sets. What to replace them with is a matter of budget and preference. If you're looking to change the handling to suit a particular purpose then that purpose will broadly define the choice of shock. If that's not the case though, you could do a lot worse than fitting OE ones. They're not expensive and are good general purpose units.

If you are keen to 'upgrade' then I'm a big fan of Koni Heavy Tracks, but you're likely to get as many different suggestions as answers to that one.

Replacing the springs is really up to you. Does it look or feel like the vehicle has sagged or is leaning in an odd direction? If it just feels a bit tired then again, new OE can feel like an upgrade for very little money. Darren
