Headlinings for hardtops

Hello folks,

Has anybody got any suggestions for buying or making a headlining for a vehicle without Alpine windows? My 90 has side windows but no Alpines and, as such, only has a (very tatty) headlining over the front seats.

I notice that LaSalle offer one (or used to - there website is two years out of date) but it's not cheap!

Years ago, I covered the roof of a Series III hardtop with carpet tiles, which was effective but needed a lot of glue! This time, I'm looking for something that can accommodate acoustic foam behind, so that approach won't work.

Also, I must admit that this is all a bit tentative - I fully intended to convert to soft top in the spring, but I'm wavering a bit as it's just so useful as is

I've covered the inside of my roof with 2mm sound deadening then 8mm (I think) foil backed closed cell foam. It noticeably reduces the condensation but you can still see the roof supporting ribs.

I just put a station wagon headlining in anyway, yes it has gaps for the missing alpine windows but my intention was to soundproof the roof behind and in these areas a bit of suitably coloured carpet would blend with the headlining.

However that was probably 6 or 7 years ago and I have not yet managed to get round to doing anything beyond having the headlining stuck in.

I also installed the station wagon side trims as I was annoyed with the 'tin can' interior, this helped a lot with warmth and sound deadening.

Thanks. That may yet be the easiest solution. I guess I'm hoping that someone will point me at some clever way of making a simple headlining

In fact, the more I think about it, if I use a standard part at the front the shape for the rear is really quite simple. Perhaps some sort of plastic sheet that can be heat formed to get the curves on each side? I'll have to think about this a bit more... Darren

So that was my plan too - I have two sheets of PVC foamboard cut to the correct size.
They're just sat in my garage though

I had same issue so this was my answer. All sound proof of course. 👍 Puma headlighing and stretchy carpeted ply.

Edit. Just realised you got Windows.lol So unless you cut it out and I filled the gap all the way round the ply, it wouldn't be ideal for you.
