Since after the kit is fitted it will be lubricated with gearbox oil, I would suggest that the best course of action would be tto assemble it thoroughly lubricated with gearbox oil, not grease.

I fitted the kit to my 2012 90 at 69000 miles after going just out of warranty having had Land Rover replace 3 std shafts foc, its now done 82000 miles with no cluncks , I did cover the splines with grease thinking it would take a while for the oil to make its way up there 2014 2.2 90 hard top , Warm M8000 , Scorpain winch bumper, Ashcroft rear atb

Picked up my 2012 90 two days ago after having its 75000 Km service.
All good, except there is now the dreaded rust showing from the output shaft opening. My trusted workshop recommended we replace the shaft asap, and the various threads on this marvelous forum confirm that. The workshop, who look after a number of heavily modified and hard driven Defenders, have fitted a couple of Ashcroft shafts to customer vehicles in the past with good results. I ordered the kit, and we´ll fit it as sonn as it arrives. 1998 Tdi 90 SW, 2008 Td4 90 SW, 2012 2.2 90 SW, 2" raised Trailmaster/Terrafirma Heavy Track Raids, 255 MT´s, Recaro CS´s, anorak, wellingtons |

Hi all!
I can tell you that my output shaft ashcroft kit was successfuly installed on my one ten puma. No more clunk noise at all since it was installed. We put some cooper grease for the install and then we hope that gearbok oil will make his job. I ll let you know in the future but at this time I m realy happy with it. Best regards |

Hi Okan,
I am in the stage to put the Ascroft output shaft in too. Why copper grease? doesn't that interfere with the self-lubrication design of the shaft? |

Hi!
It was the only grease we had to install it. That's how we made it for install but the better is to ask to Ashcroft. I don't think that could be worst than without any lubrification and we didn't know how many time to lubrify the shaft by "leakage" regards |

Hi all!
The dreaded clunk is getting worse and I'm thinking of getting the ashcroft kit ordered this week!. Just wondering if anyone who has installed the kit has had any of the dreaded clunk noises come back? - I take it that this output shaft change is a must from all the initial reviews I've seen! Cheers, Ollie |

Not had one fail yet nor do I think it will. Speak to Ashcroft’s if you have any technical questions they’re great to deal with!
