Who knows? I certainly don't. I'll plug the Nanocom in tomorrow and see if anything looks amiss. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

VCV in pump and/or fuel rail pressure relief valve at a guess. They don't usually flag a fault code however.

I've had a look at the live data with my Nanocom and the fuel rail pressure is all over the place at cold idle. It seems to want to settle around 21MPA but is fluctuating with revs between 14 and 40MPA. The rpm is hunting between about 750 and 850rpm. Does this point to VCV or pressure relief valve?
And as said before, the issue gradually reduces as the engine warms up. It idles fine once fully warm. Off idle, it drives normally even when cold. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS |

Could well be VCV, more likely than PRV I would think.

Does anyone have a link to the pressure relief valve? If they are cheap I'll just change it and see what happens. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

I think they aren't far off £150 each. Probably cheaper with Ford than Land Rover.
The PRV is easy enough to remove from memory. The valve should be one complete unit. Be warned, there is a small, copper washer which may get disturbed when removed. Hopefully, someone can shed a bit more light for you. |

Not cheap then, so I don't really want to change it on the off chance. Is there anything I, or anyone else can do to better diagnose whats wrong? There are no related fault codes in the ECU so all i can see at the minute is the fuel pressure and rpm figures fluctuating in the Nanocom.
The VCV will be £120 plus I can't do the "learn" (whatever that is) with my Nanocom. Will a well equiped local garage, not a landy specialist, be equiped to do that or do I need a Land Rove place to do it? The pressure relief valve will be £70ish, easy to fit, but not likely to the problem 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS |

If I fit a new VCV, can I drive it safely to somewhere to get the pump learn done? 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Yes, you have to have the engine warm to do it anyway.

hi guys, similar symptoms on my Puma this morning when I started it. Ambient temp was around 12C, so not related to the cold.
My EGR has been closed via BAS remap since 2011, so can't be that either. No fault codes either, which is odd? Some bad diesel maybe? I filled up yesterday, but ran the previous tank to fumes, could be some dirt pickup from the bottom of the tank? could it also be the VCV? I will post video I made shortly, but by the time I got to my phone, it had almost died away. There is a hint of it at around the 1:15 mark, although it's barely perceptible. -- 2010 Defender Puma 90 + BAS remap + Alive IC + Slickshift + Ashcroft ATB rear 2015 Range Rover Sport V8 Supercharged Defender Puma Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zZ1en9 Discovery 4 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zXrtKO Range Rover/Sport L320/L322/L494 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zc58JQ |

Since I started this thread my car miraculously fixed itself. I bought a VCV to go on, but never needed it. I've been using Millers Eco Max diesel additive and I wonder whether that has cleaned up whatever was causing the rough running. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS
