Gas strut or similar for Arm rest anyone fitted one?

Hello

I've a padded armrest on my Defender and the 'strap' that holds it is pretty naff, If I open while driving it can tip too far into the rear. I'm moved it forward a couple of time but its still naff...

I've thought a soft close gas strut like in caravan cupboards would be much better. like this below?

What would I need?

Yup, I fitted one to my cubby box a few years ago. Brilliant..

I think I went for the 80nm version.

I did it too. I went for the lightest strut I could find but I can't remember how many newtons it was. Works very well.

I honestly don't understand how they make any money with the prices they charge for those gas struts. The cost must barely cover the postage. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

It's certainly resolved the issue with the kids swinging on the check strap

I agree - how do they manufacture and supply them for that money ? (don't answer that!)

It has a nice controlled open and quite a precise close. Good VFM.

I am however going to buy a couple of spare struts for that money
