That's why I love this forum. Even though it's yet to be fixed, the answers and options coming through aplenty, leave me to believe it will. And no doubt you guys are in the middle of heart bypass surgery, planning world domination or live making and still have the time to help the Grenadier stuck in a Godforsaken service station in Bonneville. Legends you all. Have decamped to Mac-doh and will report back. Ta . Monsieur Le Grenadier

Hi jrule, not sure about the immobiliser as the little red flashing lights on the dash have gone as well. Also, I never use it, as I have a separate immobiliser/key set up. Still on manual unlock. Monsieur Le Grenadier

Maybe try disconnecting the battery completely for few minutes and then reconnecting

Not wishing to sound like a complete moron, but it's been twenty years since I had a (potential) flat battery, but can I still jump start it and expect it to run given the engine size, plus associated electronics? I know my fiat uno could do so, but this I'm not sure. I'd have to get 50kms to safety at my local Def garage.....any advice before I track down a grizzly Romanian trucker? Monsieur Le Grenadier

Shouldn't have an issue jump starting just make sure that jump leads are up to the task and you have a good connection to the terminals

Starter motor stuck? Roll it for ward a few times in gear and then try starting it. Ray

When it started this morning, no problems. Didn't feel sticky. Still think electrics. Monsieur Le Grenadier

Just you can jump start it but make sure you leave a battery connected to it at all times.
If your battery had completely conked out then you might need to disconnect it to jump it, but then reconnect it before you take the jump leads off. |

Gren, sorry to hear of your plight! In view of the influence slamming the flappy Defender door previously had on proceedings, I'd suggest you check for a loose relay or fuse, under the dash and in the right hand seat box. Between the hamburger and your milkshake, that is. Good luck! 1998 Tdi 90 SW,

Thank you all once again. Below is the photo of the culprit. Found in the battery box, a fuse between two wires, one (the yellow connection you can see) on the negative terminal, the other end, well frankly I can't remember I was so happy getting it fixed. That little blighter shut the whole car down. Any ideas what it's for? Immobiliser as someone pointed out?
Click image to enlarge And thank you all once again. As the yanks would say 'awesome' response. Genuinely brilliant and allowed me to fix it DIY, no call out, no charges (being on the M-Way). What's more, I know what to look for next time, above and beyond this fuse. You're gentlemen one and all...
