The fan is noisy but I am used to the Disco. (The Disco's fan used to switch itself off on speed 4)
so (see the heated seat thread elsewhere here) I wind down the windows so that I can't hear it. (A Merry (not white) Christmas from the antipodes ![]() '08 Defender 110 ex '95 Disco 300 Tdi www.aulro.com |

The fan is noisy as you said. But what annoys me more is the fact that the with the A/C or the wipers on I get noise generated from their motors to the radio transmitter I use with my iPod. There is obviously very poor suppression on the cables in the dash.
I do like the way a fan comes on with just the A/C switch pressed in. As for a white Christmas its a bloody cold 28C today and bucketing down rain for most of the last 24 hours. So much for camping over Christmas ![]() 110 300Tdi ![]() LROCV ::: AULRO.com |

As above, my definately turns off with the ignition.
Thanks for setting my mind at rest about the fan noise, there are all sorts of noises I probably hadn't noticed before with the TD5 |

I only find the fan noisy when it is on recirculate - it's not to bad when set to fresh air. 2007 Defender 110

I'm not sure it's the actual fan that's making the noise, it sounds to me more like the airflow itself, as the air gets forced around sharp bends and through small holes (like a whistle with no, well whistle). As "sticky" say's, an asthmatic wheeze. The quieter engine doesn't help as other noises then become more apparent.
