Very nice Defender. No VVT on this engine, just DOD, which has been disabled in the ECU by Speartech. I was worried the looms and ECUs had got lost as they seemed to get delayed in Indianapois for 7 days but they have just updated the tracking and they have made it to Chicago. 2001 90 HT 6.0LS/6spdAuto. 2003 90 td5 soft top. 2014 90 XS SW 2.2. |

@100 inch.
Oh my word! I saw that on tumblr many months ago and I'd searched and searched to find a build thread on it, but as I'd only seen one small picture, I drew a blank. Is there a thread please? I love that ! |

Thanks psimpson7, guess the VVT is a nice extra toy but would come really handy if you ever plan to enter comps where you can't go over the 6.0. But i doubt you lack power |

I finally got my new wiring looms, and my reprogrammed e38/t43 ecms released from customs and they are now safely home!
Click image to enlarge Since then I have reassembled the valve body and t43 ecm and refitted that into the 6l80 after changing the seal for the oil filter in the pump body for a new one. Also fitted the new Camaro wide mouth filter. I have about 4 more orders of bits on the way including an LS3 camshaft, valve springs to suit, DOD removal kit, oil cooler manifold for the 6l80. I will finish fitting the deeper sump on the auto next, then I may swap out the empty transfer case / front output I was using for setting up with the one that is going in the car and refit the Underdrive. Then once the cam/DOD stuff is swapped in the engine I will do the wiring. hopefully that will be next week. Bit of an update.
I have fitted the new sump on the 6l80. sorry for the rubbish picture. Click image to enlarge Removed the engine sump, and oil pick up and test fitted the truck/4wd version. This is only on with a couple of bolts while I wait for the gasket to arrive, and bearing in mind the next few pics, removing the sump will probably need to happen again. Click image to enlarge Removing the heads: Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Waterpump also removed. Click image to enlarge Harmonic balancer and then timing cover to come off next. Then I can fit the new cam, then start to reassemble it. Will the wiring into the truck be as simple as they say?

We will find out soon I guess. It looks like it should be. The loom supplied is literally plug and play. It even has an OBD2 port and check engine light built in.
Timing cover removed after taking off the harmonic balancer: Click image to enlarge Oil pump: Click image to enlarge Oil pump removed: Click image to enlarge Timing gear and Camshaft removed: Click image to enlarge Valve springs/collets changed from the standard ones to LS3 ones which can cope with more lift Click image to enlarge Annoyingly my camshaft has been lost in shipping. I will order a new one today Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated 2001 90 HT 6.0LS/6spdAuto. 2003 90 td5 soft top. 2014 90 XS SW 2.2. |

Replacement camshaft (standard ls3 6.2 cam) arrived and I got back onto this last night.
Note LS2 damper, as opposed to LS3 tensioner. It really is as basic as it looks! Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge New lifters and buckets. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Refitting the heads: Click image to enlarge Looking a lot more complete now. Click image to enlarge Next thing to do is to get the oil pressure riser on the new cover plate machined down and tapped to block it off. That should be done next week. I have an adpater being machined to replace the oil cooler bypass on the sump above the oil filter to relocate the pressure switch. (I'm not going to worry re an engine oil cooler yet - they dont appear to run one standard, however the truck sump holds about a litre less oil I believe than the car pan so I will keep an eye on that) I have however also ordered 4 x 90 degree an6 fittings, 3m of 200 series an6 hose, 2 x 10ord to an6 adaptors and a 30 row (330mmx231mmx51mm) oil cooler for the auto. (all Aeroflow who seem to make fairly decent stuff) Hopefully I should get these early next week as they were only from somewhere in Sydney. That should fit in front of the radiator as I have removed the intercooler which is not needed anymore. New sump gasket also arrived from the local holden main dealer. Still waiting on the oil filter I ordered at the same time! Going to start trying to sort the fuel system next. Thinking bosch 044 pump possibly in the standard td5 tank carrier set up (I have a spare one here I will take apart and have a look at) or a lift pump from the td5 tank, to a swirl pot then Bosch 044. Once I get the valley plate mods done, I will refit that, then the inlet, and then try and get it wired up Will also grab some engine oil so I can fill everything back up.
