It may have the 15P engine. Mine is Sept 2001 and was one of the first with a 15P and the newer centre dash.
Have you any pictures, interior would be useful, and maybe we can see it it is a facelift or not ? It says May 2001 so will be a 10P.
Looks like somebody has fitted the later centre dash. You could ask for the engine number to be 100% sure but I don't think the 15P's came in earlier than September 2001. Are you reading the reg date as American's do, Bob? Month/day/year instead of (our) usual day/month/year? It could be a November car, in which case a 2002 model year. It is certainly an '02 face lifted dash - and air con as well, which is a bonus. Looks very tidy and, I would think, worth the journey.

I think you are right Tony. A November reg will have the 15P and facelift dash.
Mick, get the engine number from the seller and then you will know for sure. It does look like a tidy vehicle. Edit. If it was a November vehicle it would be on a 51 plate - this one is a Y plate so dates it pre September. I know you can't be 100% sure with the plates so engine number is needed ! Difficult to say. I bet there are quite a few 10P engines around still with the plastic pins. If it is a 10P and you are worried about it unfortunately the only way to find out is to take the head off and check.

Just drive it, it'll work or it won't. Part of the adventure. I bought from Germany imported to Canada and drove it 1500 miles right off the boat. 10P 2000 model. Just decided to go for it and nothing since... have fun!

Well I've done a car check and it's a 10p engine which is prob okay I am not averse to doing a head if it goes. The other slight worry is the old MOTs says advisory GENERAL CORROSION TO REAR CHASSIS AND BODY I've asked for pics of chassis. I noticed there is a gap in the ownership of a year after that advisory so probably in a dealer just a bit worried of a bodged chassis.
What do you guys recon? Mick |

Well, it looks alright on the photos but most of them do.
It's just passed an MOT "with no advisories" so l would guess that the "general corrosion to body and chassis" has been repaired. It also has four new doors which is never a bad thing. It's at the lower end of TD5 SW prices and needs a good looking over as with any older Defender. You'll have to take a chance with the cost of a train ticket. |

Well I have had pics of the chassis and the points on the body where the paintwork isn't the best none of it is off putting, it has an all new Exmoor trim interior. So I am going down on Thursday to have a look see and buy if all is okay.
