Unbelievably... It works!! Very Happy
In the end I realised that the actuator will hold the lock in whatever position it is left in and therefore negate the need for the broken spring! Perfect!

I still have some little jobs to do: wire in the hazard lights and finish off the alarm/immobiliser bits (not too much detail here for obvious reasons), however, the main work is done. Matt.

90 looks Good Matt
Reason for this is yours would be a van conversion rather than a genuine county station wagon. But one which someone has converted.
To fit sliding windows you'll need to cut the side to fit the correct sized windows. It looks from the pictures like the alpine top lights are also in the wrong place as slightly to high.
None of this is a problem, just means you'll have to cut a bigger hole if you want to change them for sliding ones.

Yeah I realised it must have been a converted hard top. The fixed window they put in is no taller than the proper sliding window, only narrower, so I should be able to fit sliding windows without too much trouble. The alpines however, have been placed too high up in the roof, so without replacing the roof that will be difficult to fix.

Sliding windows are on the list but will be quite expensive so a way down! Thumbs Up Matt.

Starting to regret buying an unbranded, Chinese locking/alarm system. Firstly, after wiring up the siren, it makes a very loud "chirp" every time the car is locked/unlocked with no apparent way to disable it. Secondly, the system has an input for door switches and automatically locks after 30 seconds if no door is opened. Obviously mine doesn't have door switches so automatically locks the doors regardless after 30 secs. There is an option to disable this feature but it makes little difference as the doors still lock after 30 seconds even with the feature disabled...
I'll now go back and continue trying to make sense of the poorly translated instructions and see if I can figure this thing out to do what I want. I bought this system over the more reputable Hawke kit as it had an incorporated alarm system which currently is useless as I've disconnected the siren so it doesn't "chirp" every time it's unlocked. Matt.

Well a little more time interpreting "Chinglish" instructions paid off, it no longer locks after 30 secs. I decided to just live with the siren blip when un/locking.

As is the usual way, one job leads to the next and so I started having a look at fixing the infamous Defender door alignment problem... The striker is adjusted to its max, so I looked at other potential causes and found there was an awful lot of play in the hinges. The pins are worn and so the door is sagging down. This means the door bounces off the rubber seal before it grabs the striker. Is there any way to replace the pin? If so, where can I get one from?

Pics below of the obvious damage, does the striker need replacing given the wear on the plastic sleeve?

Had a cracking day at Peterborough LRO show! First time I've been and had a truly excellent day. Managed to pick up a few things in the array of second hand stalls - got a pair of sliding windows for £30! Also had a conversation with the guys at Syncro Gearboxes and ended up buying a slickshift kit. They had some demo boxes on show and the changes felt much more positive - I'm hoping it will make finding 1st and reverse easier. We also went for a spin on the off road course and got very muddy!

Slick shift is in! Not too difficult to fit with the Youtube installation video - explained everything well. Haven't had chance for a test drive yet but it doesn't seem like it's fixed my 1st/reverse selection problem. I did notice a LOT of wear on the slits down the side of the turret which has caused a lot of extra play in the gear lever movement so I ought to replace the turret at some point.

Also put my new temp gauge in, been meaning to get one for a while as the non-standard one really bugged me - especially in the dark as the dash illumination was a white light when the other gauges are a greenish light.

Again, not actually checked it works yet, might have to buy a new sender if the calibration is off. Matt.

Scary job today! Started fitting my new sliding windows. Old windows were very easy to remove, which revealed the shoddy panel cutting and rubber seals.

All masked up and measured, checked my measurements at least 5 times... Whistle Better that way than rushing it and making a mess! Piece of card is there to prevent the panel being damaged by the jigsaw.

I fastened it in with small bolts with countersunk heads and a bead of general purpose silicone bond to seal it all round.

Then the rubber strip went round over the bolts and finished it off nicely. Just got the other side to do now but it looks so much better, also quite practical for when the dog's in the back.
