Winter general prep-Puma wipers
As the cold/wet weather approaches, I'll be doing loads of little stuff, that's easy for anybody to do and hopefully prevent some breakages.
I decided look at the wiper spindles on Mrs Greeni's 90, as I've had friends whose wiper mechs had snapped off for some reason, and I'd seen loads of rust from the spindles running down the vents (I mean faux vents Mr. Green )
So I decided have a look and it appeared one nut holding the spindle on the bulkhead was loose and the other was not even on the threads making the spindle move around a lot.
Here's how to:

13mm nut holding wiper

The wipers were a bit stubborn, so give them a squirt of Wd40 and have a coffee whilst it soaks in, then give them a jiggle...or if you have a wiper puller.....

The spindle needed pulling out as there were no thread to wind the nut on, so I put the wiper nut back on and used it as a handle to pull the spindle out of the bulkhead

You need a 19mm multi ring spanner or socket as the nut is 8 sided on the spindle, not the usual 6.

The rubber cover I decided fill with marine grease, as they were dry and I gave the spindle a smidgen of grease too, so next time the wiper won't be a bitch to get off.

Then bolt the wiper back on, don't go mad tightening it up, a small ratchet will be ample...don't over do it.

Go and have a look at your spindles...make sure the nuts are holding them on Thumbs Up

That's a great explanation. Thanks for that. Surely one day will come in handy. Thumbs Up
Mine are ok I think, nothing loose, no strange sounds. Just this morning, also as winter general prep, I put ACF 50 everywhere I could on the wiper spindles, let the wipermotor with the wipers off the windshield run for a while in the hope that the ACF50 will penetrate some.
Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.
