If your going to ride dont scrimp on your kit and helmet, it really will save your life.
I got take off my KTM RC8R at 50mph on the 8/9/2016 by a driver who turned infront of my on an A-road. I had 0.5 of a second to respond before I made impact. Treat everyone as if they will kill you, even if you think they know your there there will be one evey now and then who will catch you out. Thats my last bike I wont ever ride on the road again, I love bikes, have been riding for year but Ive had to many close shaves now. Again buy the best kit you can afford. You wont regret it.
When I did my CBT in Wales 20 years ago, the instructor gave me the one advice that's still always on my mind: ** Treat all others as idiots! ** |

Doesn,t solve the problem of people just pulling out on you though. Also happened to me twice in just over a years riding. I missed them on both counts only as circumstances were in my favour if not I would have hit them or oncoming traffic.
There is no doubt it is dangerous and it can be just luck and a matter of time until you are hit. No amount of being careful will stop people just pulling out let alone all the other hazards... My wife would not come out with me, she is more of a coffee shop, wall flower type of girl, no problem with that, she is able to make that choice as an adult. |
