I'm running all LED's even side repeaters bar Crystals which are of course halogen.
Am I correct in assuming that the load through the switch more than just the headlights? I'm thinking tail lights at 5w each and 21w each under braking would be as standard plus trailer if towing. So if this is true, which I imagine is then I've reduced my current through the switch quite a bit from standard already. I'd mainly like Noldens due to output and to match the rest as LED's. They have grown on me recently.  No Guts, No Glory.

Custom .. good point. I have Wipac LED side, tail and indicators. The only standard lights I have are the headlamps.So the overall power consumption should be less.

Your brakes lights and indicators don't run through that switch just the dip/main and side lights, plus whatever you have on any trailer, but yes you've taken a small chunk of the load off. But let's work it out...
Side light bulbs are (just checked!) 5W each not 21W as I thought, so lets's say the LEDs halve that. So total load without a trailer was 2 headlights (55W each) + side lights (5W * 4) so 130W. That's 10.8A at 12V through that switch. If you just swap to LED side lights that will be (estimating) 2.5W * 4 so still a total of 120W. So that's 10A at 12V, a reduction of 0.8A. A 7.5% reduction. If you swap to LED headlights as well at 35W each, that's a total of 80W, or 6.6A. So in my case I've reduced the load from 10.8A to 6.6A or a 40% reduction. So the biggest change is the headlights. I haven't taken into account the dash illumination or number plate light. I've had two beers and doing advanced mathematics in a public forum, so the above needs to be read with that in mind... LED number plate here too. 
Your calculation sounds about right, 7% ish is better than no reduction. But as you say 40% or so is much better. If I can go to LED headlights I'm fully LED except dash illumination and spots. I have LED everything inside so that's good. Halogen Spotlights can have their advantages and there are wired independently on mine with a good 2.5mm or 3mm thinwall cable direct to battery. So no issues there, but of course nice to upgrade maybe one day. LED light bars are nice for some but not my taste otherwise mine would start looking like a pimped up truck with FF a bar and front spots, swivels and light bars and more and more... The trailer electrical load is taken through the Relay I'd have thought and not through the switch. Must go LED on that too.  No Guts, No Glory.

On my previous ones I had additional driving lights and roof lights. I'm over that phase of Defender custodianship now
I decided to keep the new 110 pretty standard so just went LEDs all round. Anyway on a Defender with factory-fit trailer electrics the trailer lights are all directly fed off the matching lighting circuit - no additional relays are used. None of this modern CAN-bus malarkey on a Defender 
The only relay that may be used is for the fridge/battery charge feed if you have a 12S socket or the newer 13 pin. I'm a lightweight. Two beers and I'm ready for bed  Dave

I've never had an issue with RDX LED lighting and RDX Relay with trailer on.
I was thinking LED's on trailer was a no go until someone mentioned on here that the Relay should be sensitive enough to detect even LED trailer load for dash indicator. Going LED on some trailers is like a complete custom wiring job as some aux lighting such as position lights there isn't always plug and play solutions or anything suitable on the market. I do always keep it 'E' marked and legal even if trailers don't go through MOT testing. Things are progressing more and more LED options are available. Have them in the house too. 6 - 8w consumption per room, tidy power saving PA too! No Guts, No Glory. 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |

I also work on other vehicles from specialist garages and have another Toyata Supra coming in, this one however is just a carcass that needs treating before a re paint! Although not my "thang" some of them are seriously quick with upgrades  |

Tried to fit an 07' cargo barrier/dog guard to a 99' 110... Dont like the angle/distance from the rear seats the standard brackets provide.
Also with the top brackets in place(behind the top trim/roof line area the trim does not go back to its original place due to the spring clip on the rear of the trim fouling on the bracket. Still, I think its doable. 1999 Defender TD5 110 Regards John M0VAZ Econet Station 48 no clock |
