Hi Caterham,

Will give them a good wiggle in a bit and I'll let you know what I see.

I'd have a good look at the main relay. Even though it's a td5 it is exactly the same as a fault I was getting on my td5. I ran the car on the drive and was able to shake the relay and get exactly the same problem by moving/rocking it.
I cleaned the contacts and changed the relay and it's been fine since 2014 - current ..... 2003 defender td5 90 (my car)
2009 - current .... 2005 zx10r

OK, gave the battery cables a good yank and they're both on there pretty tight as the whole battery shakes when I do yank on them.

Where can I find the main relay in a 2011 Puma?

Still have to print out the earth cheat sheet and have my other sparky give them a once over.

I'm suspecting that maybe it's something in the fuel filter? I experienced it with the old filter and lived with it as the filter change was near. Unfortunately, when the mechanics put in the new filter, they just poured the contents of the old into the new and maybe whatever was causing this went with it? I'm thinking of dumping the contents of the fuel filter then just top it off with clean diesel. What do all y'all think?

Just to update, after doing all the checking I can do myself, I consulted a few of the tech guys during a get together and it seems that I may need a new VCV. Will advise once the work is done and report results.

Just to update everyone, had the VCV changed and ran very well for two weeks before the problem presented itself again. After some head scratching, we decided to replace the main relay and check the main earth point. Upon checking the battery, it seems that the negative connection was still bit loose despite it rocking the truck when you check but apparently if you move it side to side, there is a bit of play so loosened it then pushed down hard on the connection then re-tightened. All good. Truck running like a champ now much more quiet and stronger. I was also advised to go with V-Power diesel as it's a better Euro 4 fuel compared to Fuel Save?
