it sounds like a earth issue I suggest you check the earth straps

is it a td5? if so watch the water gauge too. if it shoots to the top it's a bad connection on the main relay 2014 - current ..... 2003 defender td5 90 (my car)

Check that the relays under the driver's seat are really tight in their sockets. This, and starting problems, can be caused by poor connections to these.

Hi andydef90, Where do I find the earth straps? I've been meaning to check them but I don't know where to find them. Tried researching on here but I haven't had much luck finding the info. |

Hi blackwolf, This is something I haven't done yet but I did check them a week or two ago when I was having some issues with my electronics. Time to check them again, I guess. Will advise if it helped any. Thanks! |

Hi All!
Just an update, check all the relays - all good. The truck had to go get some body work done and had the earth points checked. After pick up, the truck was cured so I guess it was the earth points like andydef90 said. Changed oil and all filters just to be sure. |

Looks like I spoke too soon and jinxed myself.
It happened at least thrice last night. Anyone have any other ideas? |

Also check the terminals on the battery itself.
I had an issue recently where I also thought it's an earth issue. Checked everywhere and even though the Negative terminal seemed tight it wasn't really. After tightening it properly with a spanner my problems were sorted. Also make sure the battery cannot move inside the box, I've also had it where, due to corregations, the battery positive touched the side of the box and then also caused the engine to cut out. |

main one from battery follow out battery box to chassis next to transfer box chassis to body work right hand side at the bulk head flat brad between chassis and body |

Hah a similar issue on a 2013 2.2, it turned out to be loose connections on the back of the ignition barrel.
A quick fix with a dob of solder |

Hi All!
Just a little update: The ignition switch is properly plugged. So far,, all the earth points seem secured and connected. Recently had work done on the AC compressor as it stopped working due to a dead magnetic coil and it needed new bearing but a little bit of machine work on the pulley. While leaving it to run, it was noticed that the hiccup, when it does occur, coincides with the compressor kicking in. The hiccup is very pronounced now. While I think the compressor thing is kind of a coincidence, as the hiccup does happen when the AC is off, does this little bit of info help narrow down the problem and how to fix it? |

D you check the battery terminals. Not just tight bolts but actually tight on battery?
