Well i have had a front runner water tank sat in the garage for around 9 months now.
Its been a time issue plus i had been trying to find a way of attaching the 'tap' part so it didnt look too 'pikey' or could be ripped off the cross member - its meant to bolt to the underside of the rear crossmember. So gave it all some thought and having came to the conclusion the easiest way was to have a disconnect system with the tap on a short piece of pipe, so stowed safely in the vehicle when not needed. Tried a few disconnects before settling on Koolance valves. they claim to only loose 0.2ml on disconnect or something similar! The Big Outdoors overland activities/gathering event is fast approaching (13-16 Oct) so thought it was about time (last ten years with water jerry cans!) to fit the thing. It was actually one of those jobs that went really well and didnt take too long at all! Tanks fits neatly up in the rear passenger side arch. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Male end of Koolance i have fed in through the rear n/s jacking point, with it routed away from the exhaust. Sleeved the water pipe as well. Click image to enlarge Actual end has a home made cover on it! Click image to enlarge It has two jubilee clips to hold it in place inside the circular mounting working on friction fit! Click image to enlarge The tail and tap Click image to enlarge and all fitted. Click image to enlarge Pipe is pulled out a fraction for connection to be made (push to make) seems to work well so far, with no drips![/url] It took 30L (or just over to fill) Just hoping it still got the same in it tomorrow morning. Really please with a real neat solution utilising space that was otherwise 'spare' Cheers James 110 2012 XS Utility 130 2011 M57 bespoke Camper 90 2010 Hardtop 90 M57 1988 Hardtop |

That looks great
I'm sticking with jerry cans for the time being so I can walk them to water to fill up. I may change my mind at some point! |

Looks a very neat solution. i was a firm believer in jerry cans but this loks like a great solution. Plus it makes it easier to get at the water.
As above though, How is it filled? Do you have to drill holes in the wheel boxes? That would be the only downside for me 110 D250 SE HT 110 USW SOLD RRE HSE Dynamic Gone, wife killed it VOLVO XC60 R Dynamic with some toys Polaris RZR 900XP SOLD |

i was the same for years, then tried one in Namibia and thought you know what this works when verses the space of leaking jerry can and lifting in out all the time etc etc Cheers James 110 2012 XS Utility 130 2011 M57 bespoke Camper 90 2010 Hardtop 90 M57 1988 Hardtop |

Another silly question. I can't remember about the wheel boxes on the 2.4. Are they flat like earlier Defenders or are they stepped like the 2.2?
Knowing my luck the whole would be on the sloped section 110 D250 SE HT 110 USW SOLD RRE HSE Dynamic Gone, wife killed it VOLVO XC60 R Dynamic with some toys Polaris RZR 900XP SOLD |

mine are sloped, from memory all 2.4 and 2.2 with option of seating in back from factory have stepped/sloped seat bases.
hardtops, DCs have single flat surface, Cheers James 110 2012 XS Utility 130 2011 M57 bespoke Camper 90 2010 Hardtop 90 M57 1988 Hardtop |
