I think it depends how much of the stolen/recovered donor vehicle is used in your "new build".
If it is enough (engine, gearbox, axles) then you can probably reuse the identity of the donor vehicle since it is OK to fit a new replacement chassis without losing this identity, provided that the chassis is substantially the same as the original (for example the same wheelbase). The build up will be subject to the infamous DVLA "points system" about which there is plenty of info online if you Google for it. If you do not qualify (with enough points) for it to be considered the same vehicle, then as far as I know it will be treated as though it is a new build kit car and registered accordingly. It may also need an SVA (Single Vehicle Approval) test prior to registration since it may not be considered to fall within the type approvals gained by LR. Once again there is plenty of info about kit cars out there (Google for it). Good luck with the build! At least you should end up with a properly assembled Defender, unlike those which come from the factory! |

I had my 300tdi built on a galv chassis and galv bulkhead. No need for Q plate. I believe it works on a point system whereby if too many major components are changed ie chassis, transmission, body, then it may fall foul of the Q plate system.
The original chassis MUST be destroyed, cut away the part with the chassis number on and keep it safe. Dont want two chassis on the road with the same number. Consider stamping the old chassis number onto a plate and then bond this onto the new chassis, rather than stamping through that nice new galv. If Old Bill pull you, at least you will be able to produce the old chassis section once your let out on bail |

I would imagine this would be ok if replacement due to corrosion or none recorded damage but from what I've read (I'm no expert) to remove the cat c with the sva test the parts(in the case of chassis or frame) should be replaced with new genuine parts? However I believe that the inspection is done on a case by case basis and so long as the rest hasn't been radically altered on a puma spec galv chassis should do? it all depends on the examiner on the day. I may be wrong but I thought the parts didn't need to be Genuine Parts (ie supplied by the original manufacturer) but equivalent parts, ie essentially the same in form, function, materials and spec to the original. You would otherwise have a problem if you needed a part which is no longer available from the original manufacturer. |

well. i bought all the parts from my local breaker. started to build a 90 tdci sw on a brand new genuine galvaniused landrover chassis.
went to his yard one day and seen the svx tub seatbox dash and bulkhead. i had to have it. the veichle was breaker only so it can never go back on road with its origonal id. the front had to much damage to even try to salvage. so ive fitted everything origonal from bulkead back body wise. engine and box with axles came from an 09 only done 6000 miles. need wings front hoop for roll cage and grille and im done. APART FROM NO NUMBERPLATE. I WILL RING DVLA TOMORROW. svx tdci (project) 200tdi 90 90 tdci truck cab 90 TD5 green lane 200tdi 100inch trayback |

Sounds like a definate Q or equivalent (if there is still one) to me as you've no main doner or original chassis for the number (the vehicle you sourced the parts from doesn't count as it's parts only) you can't even claim new vehicle build as you haven't used new parts. I'd ring the DVLA to confirm but fear the worst and start looking for a puma cat c and rebuild that using your good parts and sell on your new chassis.
