^^^ an ewock is a small 4x4 and quite capable until you put it side by side with a Jimny then suddenly the ewock looks as big and bloated as a dead orca and it's ability to venture off the beaten track starts to look decidedly unambitious. I agree that they are nice inside and and can hoof along a motorway and doubtless that is what they were designed to do but so was an audi a4 or bm 3 series and I would sooner have either of those than an ultimately flawed vehicle that tries to do two totally different things and kinda fails to excel at either. I couldnt disagree more - whilst i like the jimny - i bet i could get the 4x4 evoque around everything a Jimny could - although i wouldnt take mine off road...someone made similar claims when i had a freelander as a toy car and they ended up red faced...they are very capable. In terms of bloated, considering its no bigger than our neighbours citron and fiat and yet still 80x more luxurious, i think the comparison doesnt stack? The picture of the D5 with the other discos from 200 - d4 doesnt show the disco DNA in my opinion, it shows a move away from it...you can see the dna though out the previous discos. Whether that is good or bad, who now Mike |

With comparable tyres you are putting low range and live axles against computers and sensors and no low range. An ewock is like all modern land rovers, point and squirt, no driver talent required. A Jimny is diametrically opposite needing a driver who is capable much like a defender, if well driven it will go wherever you want. Oh and ewock are huge in relation to a Jimny 700 plus mm longer and 300 plus mm wider, significant amount heavier too, over 600kg according to parkers. ...as long as it gets you wherever you want to go and is reliable then the rest is down to personal taste in regards looks, purchase price, running costs ...and how much you want to rough it. Legislation and modern computer aided design means that passenger vehicles are likely to generally look similar. Steve.

Dont underestimate tyres though - i bet i could leave most of the special programmes off running the same tyres getting it through where the jimny goes. Often these comparisons dont run on the same tyres which makes a huge difference. Im not sure i fully agree with the driver skill argument...ive equally been to off road days and seem limited skill jimny owners get it round just with its basic features Dont get me wrong, i do like them to a point Mike |
