Front Runner or Patriot roof rack
Has anyone any experience of these roof racks for a 90?
I have looked at the Patriot and it looks robust however fitting tie down hoops and additional brackets seems a struggle, I was also going to guess the Patriot would be quieter due to its longitudal slats.
I have not had an opportunity to see a front runner rack.

I have already have roof bars and a karitek rack that I am likely to sell.

I have done some searching but not really finding a huge amount.

Cheers

I have a Patriot on my 110DC and it does everything I want. I have never had an issue finding bits of the rack to lash stuff to, and if you need additional brackets it is very easy to drill a hole and bolt them on.

It is very sturdy, mine has even carried full-size telegraph poles (not on the public highway, I should perhaps point out)!

Hi Darren,

Have you taken a look at the Flatdog rack? We had one fitted in February for camping this year. Cannot fault it.

Hi Darren, I can only tell you about my experiences with the Frontrunner. So far I am 100% happy with it. Wind noise isn't really a problem as they deliver some kind of wind deflector which has to be mounted underneath the first slat. What I especially love about it is the wide variety of accessoires offered for it and the ease of mounting them. You can get pretty much everything from Hi-Lift mount to bottle opener. Wink

I heard of some people being a little bit irritated by the flex of the slats while walking on them, but that has never been an issue for me. (they bend max 2-3 cm - nothing serious) . _____

Don't forget to consider the Hannibal. Incorporates the benefits and build quality of a Patriot such as longditudinal slats, with the looks of Front-Runner, and has a host of accessories from Flat-Dog/Front Runner that will fit.

Hannibal rack is stronger and comes complete, rather than patriot mechano kit.

Flatdog and Front Runner left-right slats are better combo for roof tents ... makes fitting much much easier when compared to Patriot and Hannibal.

Ditto - we fitted one last week - easy to fit, looks great, solid as a rock and seemed a pretty good price.

I have a very old Hannibal rack, absolutely fantastic piece of kit. No tracking system for accessories, but always somewhere to hook a ratchet strap onto. No wind noise, though I do gain a few mpg without it fitted!

Has been known to carry up to a dozen explorer scouts across fields Laughing

Made me smile Thumbs Up

Well since people are throwing in other roof rack suggestions may I suggest the Nakatanenga Cargo Bear roof rack?

It is the only TRULY modular roof rack system available in the UK.

Unlike the other racks mentioned you can take a 110 version, take off one module and fit it to a 90 or do you just need a couple of roof bars, just take off the parts you do not require.

Being modular , much easier to take off and store it when you do not require it.

My suggestion would be to see as many possible roof racks 'in the flesh' so to speak to try and decide which one is best for your use.

Fortunately, at the end of the day, all the roof racks mentioned are of a very high quality and will serve you well!

I did note the CargoBear for the first time earlier this week and does look good / unusual.
The Patriot is built about 8 miles from my doorstep and I recently went around their factory and have to say I was impressed with the robustness of the rack. Good to keep the finances local and customer service local!
My main concern was mounting additional items to the patriot such as a Thule roofbox, kayak rack etc, it seems a lot easier to mount that sort of kit on the front runner but I was a little worried about the longitude slats and wind noise.

Thanks for all the notes above and the extra options👍 Darren
