Has anybody had any issues with the mudflap catching on the tyre?
I have just returned from a trip to Ireland and when driving along noticed the offside rear flap appeared to move forward, catch the tyre and rub all the way through the rubber flap. Despite stopping and removing the flap out of the way it always seemed to get caught in the tyre with the following result. Were you towing? If so, that's pretty standard!

Yes, just remove the wheel. That sorted it for me.
On a serious note, it is quite common, and as others have said its exacerbated if you are towing. They flap about quite a bit when in motion - you'd be surprised. Some potential solutions on here. |

I know it's not the prettiest solution - it was done in a hurry and I didn't have any stainless chain to hand - but it solved the problem completely

Thanks for all the replies and yes I was towing the caravan at the time. A real pain and unsightly, but when I get a new flap tomorrow the mods start in earnest. 2015 Defender 110 XS Utility Santorini Black, sawtooth alloys, steps and so much more...........

I'm experiencing this problem, too. It's a 110.
Her mudflap is slightly shorter although I've never been towing. It's the wind I suppose. THX 4 the trick with the steel chaines. I'll try that, too. |

Happens to me about once a year when towing. Having ruined one mudflap the secret is to pull over real fast when you hear a thump followed by an audible whirring/rubbing sound. Of course its not always possible to react quickly but its amazing how much flap is worn away in less than a minute ! And its always the nearside one !
