I can top that. In Aussie we didn't have the 1.8TC, but we had an identical car as Leyland Aus dropped the 2.6L 6Cyl P76 engine into the same Coupe shell. Acceleration was quite good, handling, as you say, was not so good!

Probably you dont know it a Chevrolet Marajo.
No brakes at all. Was my first car when I married you need to push the brakes as soon as you get some acceleration to be able to stop in time.

Monrovia, Liberia, most cars are ex Netherlands Nissan Sunny taxis...

Our driver had to get out and suck a liquid though a tube and spit it out every 10kms to keep it going, he also drove everywhere in 1st, I asked why 'to save fuel' (zero sarcasm, I truly think he believed it).

Anyway, he got out to get some food, so I jumped at the opportunity to see if had any other gears. It did (woohoo!) but yeah, the traffic situation is pretty much that you don't want to be driving any faster than 1st affords and I soon discovered that the clutch served dual purpose as the brake also, so... Rolling Eyes Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants...

Second the Insignia, can,t beleive people spend over 20k on them...

Rover 45, equivalent of the Insignia, cheap, nasty...

I live in SAABs, had over 40 as it includes classic SAABS, buy them for around 1-4k drive them into the ground over 8-10k years with over 200k on the clock. Great cars until GM took over Sad

Current one is a 9000 Aero 225 BHP, largely hand built, great engineering you will never get cars like these any more sadly. Wicked mid range, advertising at the time mentions it would beat a Lambo, Porcshe and Testerossa from 40mph Very Happy Mine is a concourse example and driven gently... Most of the time Whistle Easy to get them up to 400 bhp even the standard model.



SAAB had Recarro build the SAAB sport seats...


One here for 9k, racked up to 520BHP, gearbox was 6k alone Shocked

Talbot Alpine, used to shake so bad at 50 mph, it eventually broke an engine mount, was covered in brown rust warts in the middle of panels because lack of paint, what a dog of a car Jumped ship to reliability - Mitsubishi L200

Late 70's Ford Fairmont - was given one as a loan car and had to suffer it for about a month.



Drove as good as it looked - like the suspension was built out of marshmallows, it turned corners like a fairground ride and the seats had no contours, so in typical American 'boat' style, you used to slide across the vinyl sections when you turned corners.

The upside was the front seat was a bench seat and as a teen, that did have advantages when romancing Mr. Green

Ford Pinto back in 1981. I rented this for a few weeks when moving to USA. When you turned the airco on from idling the engine would stall immediately. You had to rev it then to keep running. It figures in the list of the 50 worst cars of all times. Can only agree with that.

Ok so not a 'car' but it was road transport.....

I was serving my time as an Agricultural Engineer outside Kinross near the former T in the Park site at Balado and got told to dive a trade in Leyland 272 tractor to Stirling Auction Market. Anyone who knows the road will know that it's very twisty in parts, now try thinking what that was like with 1.75 turns of free play in the steering!!! SCARY.......

Oh yes, and there was virtually no brakes as well!

Carrying on with the plant and machinery - a Massey Ferguson back hoe. Eternally greatful to borrow it but driving it was an art. It bounced around and wandered all over the road and the steering required constant correction. Great fun but probably the worst handling thing I have ever driven.

Few years back on a charity banger rally through Europe. We bought a Ford Dorchester 1986 funeral limousine with 3 speed auto. Clearly never been driven past 30mph but my turn to drive on a fast route from Turin to Cannes.

If anyone has driven that autoroute, its twisty and lots of tunnels. Managed to hit 100 on a big sweeping bend and the body flexed so much the windscreen shattered and the back window blew out.

Car was a sea of vinyl and brown plastic and smelt horrendous

1.3 Morris Marina for me. Absolutely lethal handling, only kept it for 2 weeks (mind you I had just gone from driving a Lotus Europa Ford twin cam, I had to sell it to raise some funds).

Early '30's Standard 10 Special. It went well enough for the period but the combination of wire wheels, cycle like narrow tyres, tiny cable operated brakes and a freewheel device which meant that if you forgot to disengage the freewheel there was no way the brakes would cope without the help of engine braking on the flat let alone going down hills. Steve.
Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades.
Current Defender: A non tarts hand-bagged Puma 110 XS USW.
