A 1972 De tomaso Pantera. The interior was very similar to an Austin Maxi as Innocenti of Italy were tied into the manufacture and also made BL cars under licence, it also had the quality feel of a Maxi too. The mid engine Ford motor was all torque and you could easily spin the wheels changing from third to top gear. The transmission noise was horrendous and as the seats lent against the rear firewall it was hot and uncomfortable. It was almost impossible to drive in the wet as the clutch had two positions, in and out, it had no feel and you'd end up doing unintentional doughnuts. However for the time it was one of the most beautiful cars I'd ever seen. Thumbs Up I started with nothing and still have most of it left!

Vauxhall Vectra 1.6 about M or N reg (I think,) bought as a temporary runaround about 15 years ago.
Absolutely hateful thing, it used to go and stop and go round corners - eventually, but it was so vague, it felt like all the controls were connected by long rubber bands so there was no sort of feedback from anything.

I hated it so much I kicked it every time I got out of it and never bothered to lock it.

Carrying on with the plant and machinery - a Massey Ferguson back hoe. Eternally greatful to borrow it but driving it was an art. It bounced around and wandered all over the road and the steering required constant correction. Great fun but probably the worst handling thing I have ever driven.

Similar experience with a JCB 3C with no brakes(and I mean no brakes!). Only way of stopping was to keep your speed down and drop the back legs and hope they didn't make too much mess of the roads.

As for car, then it has to be an Austin Princess in Censored Brown and black vinyl roof. Whoever thought of that design needed to have been shot!

Most boring, soul sucking, car labelled object - Toyota Camry (all of them)

Most hateful - Mitsubishi ASX

Cheers,

i have too many bad car memories i think.

Fiat 500 hire car in Paris with auto box and stop start was terrifying in traffic. i found religion trying to drive it through junctions.

Rolls Royce corniche 1971 that some genius had bolted the rear axle mounts to the floor pan instead of the chassis and without washers so a brief drive on the blind summits of the A68 dropped the bloody thing right off the car and held together by the shocks, that was pretty scary

VW Caddy van. Could have walked faster and was doing stupid RPM when you eventually got to 70. Needed a packet of neurofen for any journey over 20 miles. The only vehicle I've ever threatened to leave a job over. Would rather drive a maestro

I drive a lot of hire cars for work, lots of really boring stuff these days, but there's nothing that seems truly bad. For me, the just replaced previous generation Astra was available as a 1.4 petrol and that really wasn't good in terms of the engine. It was the first car in many years that felt really under powered, needing to shift down out of top at 60mph on a duel carriageway incline. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Fiat Cinquecento , like this one. I borrowed it from a friend in Portsmouth and drove it home to Winchester M27 then M3 . Never got it over 50mph with lorries overtaking on a very wet day, a truly frightening experience.
