Fuel tank removal 2007 90 hardtop?
Hello All,

Has anyone removed the fuel tank on there defender?
I have removed the 6 bolts from the back and underneath.
The problem seems to be that the tank needs to go forward to drop down past the brackets but won't move much.

Any ideas

Thanks

To all,

I never was able to remove it.
So I fabricated brackets to attach the seat mounts further forward to avoid the tank removal.
The brackets are all below the mat so you don't see them.

thanks

It's a bloody horrible job. I believe it is the same as the TD5 tank which is lowered into the cradle on the chassis before the body goes on.

It is possible but takes some serious effort and stronger arms than I have! www.td5.org

But buy a new aftermarket cradle/guard before you do the job that bolts to the underside of the chassis so you don't have to try and lever the old one back in. www.td5.org

Just having this dilemma myself. The breather hose is totally rotten (which is pretty rubbish at 5 years old)

It seems the tank needs to be dropped to get to it, however most of the comments suggest LR dropped the tank into the chassis before the body was fitted hence it doesn't like to come out from the bottom...

If anybody knows of a method to remove the tank please comment !

Buy a replacement tank cradle from YRM that bolts on from underneath and then take an angle grinder to the old one to get it out, obviously taking care not to damage the tank itself. Admittedly not done it myself but my indie has just done the job on my 90. He said this was by far the easiest way of doing it. Plus the new YRM aluminium cradle looks great. Other cradles are available, just that I went with the YRM one (no affiliation). 2005 Td5 | 90 Station Wagon | Tonga Green

Not keen on taking an angle grinder to the chassis but it looks like there is no other way forward without removing the body.

I'll look into the replacement tank brackets.

Not the chassis, the old tank cradle that will be replaced with the new bolt-on version. 2005 Td5 | 90 Station Wagon | Tonga Green

If its just a cradle its not too bad, I'll have to have a closer look soon.

I have done four or so of these. You don't need to cut out the old one just e everything and get a good pry bar and be prepared to do some work. Cheers
