White smoke at cold start and low power for a few secs
When i start my 03 td5 up in the morning it produces alot of thick white smoke and has like no power for around 5 secs then it kicks in. I think the turbo might be on its way out. I'm replacing it for a hyrbid turbo anyway when i save up enough pennies. Any ideas 2003 Defender TD5 90

I'm not sure about the white smoke, but had the lack of power issue on my td5 disco. Swapped the air flow meter and all sorted 2007 - Stornoway Grey 90 XS SW - Gone

Hmm. Mine is pretty flat for the first few minutes on a cold start. It also had a reasonable amount of white smoke a few months back, but I'd just swapped some injectors.

Might have to look at my AAT, hadn't thought of that!

White smoke like that has been known to indicate a failing head gasket with the smoke being water being burnt off that has built up hen the engine has been of.

Not a total guarantee though......

This happened on my van (Ford tdci) and it was unburnt diesel due to faulty glow plugs.
