Is that an automatic drive? What would the advantage be?

In my last role in the Army I was based in Warminster. We had space in our compound so had the pleasure of storing the WMIK's used on the recce courses. I think we had 9 there. Wish the spare wheels had fallen off now. As I quite fancy a set for my 110. Thumbs Up

Anyway I digress. Forget the cost of the base vehicle, the cost of the superstructure for the WMIK was £20K when I priced it up, just before I left in 2011. Shocked 110 D250 SE HT

Taken from another mil orientated website with people who know a lot more than me about current state of affairs with regards to UKSF vehicles.

These are the operational versions of a new Supacat - the LRV 400, based on a LR Discovery chassis.
Linky: LRV 400 - Supacat - High mobility vehicles
Very, very cool, and very much the new WMIK

I know its about functionality, but that looks a bit shonky to me Laughing

Prefer the Syria spec Land Cruiser - way more reliable than a twin chassis Discovery Whistle New project and it's green: www.projectoverland.info

This is in fact an RWMIK+ rather than an RWMIK, and is the first I have seen being cast. Rather desirable as a collector's item but no doubt expensive.

Brewstop posting one one the most in depth replies I've ever read.

Proud to say that I'm listed in his list of WMIK users. Glad to see a bit more armour, protection and power (RWMIK+) has been added since I used them Thumbs Up

An ally looking bit of kit, but I question the need to own one as a civvie Confused Strong people are harder to kill and generally more useful!

Really interesting thread.

The Army website seems to suggest that, whilst being replaced by the vector and mastiff, the snatch 2 and rwmik are both still in use.

I believe they are, just not by gentlemen with long hair.

Could have asked today. Bumped into a Hereford boy who came to look at my DC. Nice guy, even had black tape over his eyes. Whistle Doing a tour of the Alps with his family in a very smart Santorini Black 110SW, (no photos, obviously) almost as loaded with kit as the WMIKs in the photos. Wondered if he was actually recceing an Alps invasion.... Rolling with laughter Monsieur Le Grenadier

Still in use (turning round in my driveway), though presumably with short haired gentlemen at the wheel Smile Whoever they were, they thanked us for the use of the driveway. They were automatic transmission, so presumably the final version. Until a couple of weeks ago there were half a dozen parked up at Knook Camp near Warminster.
