Interesting Video
Is the newer Defender a poor imitation of its predecessors?

Even the Freelander mastered it, without Difflock and probably on road tyres Laughing

To me it looked like the Defender and Freelander had far slower approach speed?

The Freelander took a better line and avoided the muddy bits.

Freelander doesn't need a diff lock in the same way a Defender does because of the way the centre coupling works. Defender only needs the diff lock because it has an otherwise open differential in the centre.

Looks like Defender did not have difflock and lowbox engaged, so probably operator error.
That hill shouldn't be a problem... Cheers, Vincent

The FL1 is also quite a bit lighter (and maybe the Series are as well). I had a FL1 and would choose it anyday over the Defender for driving on say an icy road or even light snow.

I think FL etc is better when driving ON a slippery surface and Defender is better when it comes to driving THROUGH or OVER terrain/obstacles.
