The Freelander took a better line and avoided the muddy bits.
Freelander doesn't need a diff lock in the same way a Defender does because of the way the centre coupling works. Defender only needs the diff lock because it has an otherwise open differential in the centre. |

Looks like Defender did not have difflock and lowbox engaged, so probably operator error.
That hill shouldn't be a problem... The FL1 is also quite a bit lighter (and maybe the Series are as well). I had a FL1 and would choose it anyday over the Defender for driving on say an icy road or even light snow.
I think FL etc is better when driving ON a slippery surface and Defender is better when it comes to driving THROUGH or OVER terrain/obstacles. |
