The brakes are all hydraulic so should be no snapped cable, if you look under ther rear you will be able to see the callipers easily, when ever a calliper is fitted new or old new bolts should be fitted so they should be an easy give away, the bolts are 13mm multi hex but I can't recall the torque setting off the top of my head. 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html

First thought was similar... They haven't fastened the caliper bolts properly and the caliper is moving on its mount.
This is something you shouldn't be driving on until you've checked them . Worst case would be both bolts falling off then the caliper saying goodbye whilst ripping the hydraulic line, i.e. fluid loss, 'pump your brakes to stop' style problem. No need to fret though, it's an easy check - remove each wheel and give the the calipers a good wiggle fore and aft to check for play. If loose nip it up, and the others, then take it for a nice an easy test drive, if no more problem, still drive straight to mech for a complete check of lines, connections, fluid bleed and re-torque of all parts worked on, preferably with you hovering with your free coffee and complete service voucher (that you'll sell and then go elsewhere). If not loose, still head in and take it easy on the way, but don't necessarily claim it was their fault, it is a LR after all ... Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants... |

I guess also possible is a disc runout issue or groove ?
Less dramatic failure, but still, take it back... Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants... |

Could just be the old brake pads rattling around in the nice clean new callipers with no baked on brake dust to hold them in place Ray

If you're forking out for calipers (instead of replacing seals and pistons) you'd think the stealer could at least replace the pads! They were probably low and therefore exposing the pistons to corrosion anyway (which could/would have caused the seizure). Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants...

It could be that new pads are slightly loose in the calipers. It is not unusual for there to be a slight clunk as the pads pick up when the brakes are applied.
If Britpart calipers and pads were used (quite likely) the pads probably don't fit the calipers very well anyway! Needs to be checked out asap though, anyway. |

I have a click when I brake from the front, had a look and the pins and springs are slack so check them out too.

What you guys are describing is tantamount to transmission slop, and similarly the more loose it gets the worse the wear gets.
An unsustainable situation yeah? Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants... |

Thanks all for the advice. I will be removing the wheels and checking the calipers over the weekend. I have realised its not happening every time I am braking.
