Hard Top Sides
Wondering if anyone could shed any light on an issue i've got currently. Just fitted up my roof and sides ready for the respray next week, converting a pick up to hard top.

I got the two sides from different places. One side lines up flush with the capping on the tub. But the driver side sits about a inch in on the capping. On both the side and rear. Very noticeable when comparing the two sides.

I thought that all model years would fit, the side came from a tdi and I am fitting it to a 2006 td5 pick up. Does anyone know if there was a slight difference between the two models ?

Assuming your truck is a 90 (from your profile) is it possible the panel which does not fit has come from a 110?

I believe that 90 and 110 hard top sides are different.

110 (88") are shorter so that wouldn't add up

It is definitely from a 90, I removed it myself at a local breakers. It fits fine, but it is in about an inch from the edge of the cappings on both the side and the back, where as the other side is flush.

There are 2 types of hard top side for the 90. The earlier ones have an external vertical rib on the front edge and a horizontal anti drum bar across the skin on the inside.
The later sides don't have the front rib and the anti drum bar is vertical.
Dimensionally they are the same with the exception of the protrusion of the front vertical rib.
When fitting replacement sides, I've always found it easiest to loosely bolt the sides to the tub and the roof and make sure that it all moves within the range I need, investigating and addressing any lack of adjustment before starting to tighten bolts. A common one is the internal bracket at the bottom of the side about half way along. These need slackening off to allow the panel in or outboard and tightened once bottom of the side is located correctly and the corner bolts are tight. Once the bottom is right you can centre the roof up and tighten those bolts.

Ok thanks for the info, this has a vertical bar on the inside, which must mean it should fit flush, if properly adjusted ?

As far as I'm aware the panels were put in place at the factory and then the holes drilled by a human to bolt the sides up (no robots that get the holes in the same place every time) so the holes could have been drilled in different places. Ray

I think that is the case, under further investigation today, I think with some fettling it will line up enough.
