Today my wife call me a little bit upset. When she return from a meeting outside the city the Defender start to make a clank noise and suddendly she lost the steering and the brakes were quite hard. She stooped and open the bonnet to see what happens fearing the worst. In summary, the accesory belt dissapear and only some strips were there Probably one of the bearing or the tensor failed or the belt itself (after 40,000 km I doubt). So 2 times in less than 2 weeks at the repair shop Eduardo MY 2007 110 SW PUMA 2.4: Big Fog of 64' MY 1994 Jayco 1207 Folding camper: "El Tremendo" Click image to enlarge |

Is the thread for the pully nut OK? I suspect it may be a full replacement job as I'd assume the pully would have been loose while it was driving. Cheers, Kyle. |

You may find one on a Ford Transit or Toyota Hilux II/III at a breaker, may save some pennies. I take out the alternator today (1 hour work)
In fact, a liitle search of the alternator Bosch PN 0121615003 shown that the shaft will end in a thread The alternator use the rotor F00M312027 I can see the thread of the rest of the pulley. So probably will be a little bit less expensive... Now try to found the pulley here in Chile (I Hope) Cheers! Where did you get the info on the alternator internals? I might be opening mine up one day soon. Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants...

Finally
I found the pulley locally (GBP 45) so tomorrow I will deliver the Alternator for the pulley change. Quite happy! Eduardo MY 2007 110 SW PUMA 2.4: Big Fog of 64' MY 1994 Jayco 1207 Folding camper: "El Tremendo" Click image to enlarge |

Pulley changed.
Alternator installed after 1 1/2 hour trying to align the alternator with the bolt holes (the space is quite limited) Then put the belt. Quite easy when you know how to do it (thanks to the Aulro forum). So the Defender is active again after 10 days. Good things: 1.- I learn how to change the belt in the bush 2.- Cost me only the pulley and the belt Cheers to all!
