losing power after heavy fuel demand
just bought (today) a 07 Hardtop 2.4 Puma. 60k miles. totally std engine.

it goes well most of the time, for info no fault codes shown.

However after a run down the motorway at 70mph after about 10mins it loses power, pushing acc does nothing, speed and engine revs drop slowly. i changed down as speed went down, after approx 30s in 4th by now at 45mph ish is recovered and gave me power back. back to 70mph and then after 3mins or so it did it again. i came off the motorway then.

If you drive slower it takes longer for the symptons to occur. ie at 60mph 15mins or so

there is no black smoke at point of power loss (in fact no smoke at all)

so i am assuming its a fuel supply related issue?

i do have a hunch on something but would welcome any suggestions as to cause and possible solution. Cheers

Possible vcv? I beleive they are prone to failure and don't show any fault codes.

Have you tried running it without the fuel cap James ? Does sound like the fuel supply can't keep up with demand.

Hi Shane, yes it was a blocked breather for the fuel tank. Cheers

Fuel filter needing changing can degrade performance too.
As far as I'm aware, never changed it myself but they just need diesel priming then fitting.

I just fill the new filter with diesel, screw it on and turn on the engine. Never needed primed. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

As spud said, fill new filter with diesel and no need to prime system.
Running it at a fast idle for a couple of mins also helps pull it through.
